P5 Mods

I was wondering what mods I can make to my P5 to increase hp and overall quickness?! I was thinking of adding turbo to it, but is there anything else?

Turbo or Naturally Aspirated?? Depends on your funding and goal. Use the search function, visit the forced induction section and the performance section. Tons of things to consider. I have an CAI Intake and Cat-back exhaust. It's been 6 months now and I am still trying to figure out what the next step will be. An cat back exhaust is usually a good place to start since it'll work in conjunction with any n/a or turbo mods.

Welcome to the boards!

The cheapest, quickest way to make power is a turbocharger, for sure. Otherwise you'll sink a lot of your money into the car. =) That is, over time, you will, rather than right off the bat. ;) So, assuming you do get a turbo kit, you would probably want Perfworks piggyback ECU, as he's talking about a sizable increase in power with one of those. HiBoost's turbo kit apparently makes the most power, at about $3.5k, and I think Perfworks was talking about the piggyback costing from $500-$1000. After the turbo kit, you'll want an exhaust, weather custom or otherwise, to take advantage of the turbo better. Some form of custom intake setup is usually included with the turbo kit, so that's generally fine. But something you may want to consider, is if you go any further with the tuning, other than an exhaust, turbo, and an ECU, my guess is that you'll be at the edge of the limits of the internals of the engine, so you may want to go forged, some hardened Titanium valve retainers, custom cams, with a flywheel and clutch to hold up to the power. We're not quite sure how far the tranny can go, yet, but it seems to eat synchros, but my guess is that that's caused by the excess slop in the engine mounts, so some urethane mounts would be suggested, lest you eat through them like candy, making that sort of power. =) Just a few things to think about for you.

is it auto or manual.. if its auto. good luck getting any more zoom zoom out of your wagon unless you go turbo or nos.. my auto gained a little throttle response once i added the injen and the racing beat cat back but that was about it.. nothing to write home about..

Damn, way to lay a load of stuff on the poor guy.

If you have the money, go turbo, better off in the end. If you don't want to spend much, get an intake and exhaust. Makes a nice little difference.

Realize that you may end up voiding your dealers warranty. Certain people on the forum say that you won't, but I have yet to see a thread where someone actually fights with the dealer over aftermarket parts and wins.

It all about your funds. Turbo is the best bang for the buck $/hp ratio. But turbos start at about 2500$. I agree with Micah, intake and exhaust is a good place to start if you aren't going turbo. It'll give you about 10-15 HP. I have been looking into Perforks turbo as well, for what it is, it seems to be a great price. I'll keep an eye on Micah's system when he's done with his post-turbo nap.
