P5 HID retrofit project completed

why do you want a larger projector? bigger is not always better.

Exactly, my FX-R projectors are 2.5" and some of the best available. They are $170 now from Retrofit Source.

Also, I used the H7 DDM Tuning HID wiring, the ballast has a 9006 input that goes to the factory H7 low beam plug, but the wiring is almost always like that for most ballasts, not just DDM's.

all ballasts for the last... what 5 years? before that there wasn't a real industry standard so there is some really weird old stuff out there. anything you'd readily find will be that way though.

I need to find a set of cheap headlights and get on this. honestly, I think either P5 or sedan would be fine with me... the kit from retrofit resource for 400 is looking tempting.

I'm gonna have extra sedan lights left over after mine are done. The lens aren't perfect but I'd say 8.5-9 out of 10.

keep me posted. bout the time you're done I'll prb be ready to go, you can pass pointers to me to pay me back for FMIC help. lol

edit: btw dub, your 2nd old ballast just let go.

That's true, I should've been specific.

I installed 55w Greddy (yes, the Greddy) ballasts today, looks so good! I had pics of the new ballasts but my damn sister deleted the pics before I had a chance to upload them. I'll get some soon.

Also, I'll need battery harnesses now. The extra power is causing some issues, one bulb wouldn't fire up as I was leaving a gas station but I turned it off and back on and it fired up.

55w is pointless for people who have HID kits setup in their halogen bulb housings because the extra light output will be blinding other drivers, however, 55w on properly installed retrofits is a nice upgrade.

Wanna chat on aim?

I was planning on getting protege sedan headlights since you can get new ones cheaper than p5 headlights. But then I saw some retro installs on the sedan lights and just did not look right. The reason I wanted bigger projectors was simply for the properly sized to look OEM. I think I would stick with the stock p5 headlights, but now you have peaked my interest on whether I should get a 55w setup with battery kit. Could you take a side by side comparison shot? Does the projector come in the low beam configuration? The reason I ask is if I plan on using the stock high beams versus the flip down of the shield and not wanting to wire up an high beam adapter. I do not use the high beams lot, but I think the stock high beam might shoot further.

I am would be doing this mode for looks, safety, and so I can stop replacing the low beams bulbs for an arm and a leg.

1 - The FX-R projector I bought is a near perfect fit after the shroud is on, there is maybe a 1/4" all around the shroud in the housing.

2 - Don't get 55w if you don't have projectors, you will be scattering a bunch of light in your factory halogen lamps.

3 - My projector is low beam and high beam, hence the "bi-xenon" meaning. You could just get a low-beam only projector if you wish, but I really can't exaggerate enough how much better the HID high beam is with the bi-xenon projector.

Oh I completely get what you are saying about not using a 55w in stock headlights with no projector. I thought about get the 35w kit for now, but I am the type of person that wants to do something right. Even if the kit is made wrong.

Example:
SLS front motor mount-had to have the chassis bolts welded to the mount so it was like stock.
Progressive 22mm rear sway bar-kept breaking the mounting brackets, so I had a friend of my grandfather mill me brackets that are twice as thick everywhere. I also have no clunk or sweak from it now.

If I were you, I would get a 35w kit now, with a proper relay harness. Then when you do a retrofit (or if you ever did), you would be in good shape.

Here is a pic of someone who converted the sedan headlights (not mine). I like it, and thanks to this thread am considering trying it myself. I also like the P5 version.
