Hi fellow mazda owners. I have a problem with my 02 p5. My friend and I were changing the timing belt ( valve cover has leaks and car has 102k) today. After all was double checked and followed alldata for proper installation procedures car wont hold an idle now! Made sure all the timing was right (hopefully) Cam closer to the firewall was on Intake mark and the other cam was on exhaust. The crank pulley was also aligned. We also rotated the crank twice after all was installed to make sure the timing was correct. We also replaced the tensioner spring pulley. After all was buttoned up and put together we started the car. The car started and was idling high (engine was still cold) but feels like a misfire or something after you rev the engine and release the gas abruptly. We decided to reset the ecu (just took off the battery). Still made no difference. When the engine finally warmed up the and idle went down... it went all the way down and just died. Started the car up again and car starts but when the tach starts going down, it just goes straight down. No hiccups or any compensation from the engine. It just goes straight down. I have a feeling that the timing belt jumped a tooth or something but I might be wrong. Going to pull the stuff apart again on sunday and double check my work. Any comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
