Like most of the other MP5's out there mine didnt come with an alarm, i want to buy one buy i dont know which kind to get and which ones are the best. Are the stock ones that you buy from mazda any good? and how would u install them if it doesnt come with one? the ones on ebay seem really cheap and i dont know if they will work. Here is one

Any feedback on alarms would be great and if anyone wants to do a group buy for it i am up for that
Let me know your thoughts (blah)

My philosophy is that 99% of the detterent of an alarm is the little red blinking light. Making some kind of noise may be helpful, but in all honestly, I think most people these days ignore it. If someone really wants your car, or something in it, then they will get it. With that said, I chose the factory alarm because it was inexpensive, plug and play (no wire cutting), and works with my factory remote. There are tons of threads on this as well, if you do a search...

Do you have any problems with the alarm? I was thinking about getting it too but heard a lot of people on the forum had problems with the alarm (i.e. sensitivity, going off when it's not supposed to, etc.)

No problems with mine. The trick is not to set it so sensitive that a feather sets it off. I don't want any false alarms because 1) they are annoying and 2) it desensitizes my neighbors. So, I have it set so that someone would have to hit my car or break a window... the point is that it is adjustable.

How about if someone is admiring your car, taking pic of your car and posing with your car, will your alarm go crazy vivid :p

i like my stock alarm. so far no problem with that

I'm willing to sell my alarm. It comes with a starter for a manual transmission, 2 remotes, internal siren, shock sensors, extended range antenna and the other normal features that an alarm has. Had it for 2 years, car has 10,000 km. Works great.

so the factory one from mazda is just literally a plug in deal? cause i was thinking of getting one and putting it in myself (cause it's 205 just for the alarm), but i didn't know if it'd be the same as putting in an aftermarket one anyhow and having to wire it all in no matter what anyhow. i really do want to keep my factory keyless entry and all, and i just thought it'd be easier to get the mazda one, but i wasn't sure. thanks in advance for the info. later

Only $164 here:

And yes, it really is plug and play. With an aftermarket you will have to splice in the wires (which isn't really the b**** of it, FINDING the wires to splice into can be).

now will that one work for the 2003 as well? i assume so because they were essentially the same, it's just that it's not listed under the 2003, and we all know what happens when we assume. thanks for the info man, i appreciate it. later

from wat i know after market alarms not the one from mazda Wont work with our clickers so you will prob have 2 clickers and the one from mazda u just use yout reg clicker

Well they list one for the 2003 for the same price, so they probably are the same. To be on the safe side, order from this link instead:

I have the stock alarm on my P5, unfortunatly it does not have engine kill so if someone were to steal it then I would be SOL . lol As far as I know Alpine makes a good alarm ( Had one on my 96 Civic Ex) but there are others that are better I would recommend going to the consumer reports website and doing some reasearch. Hope this helps you.

i have the clifford c5 alarm on my p5; their control unit just replaces mazda's. no need to keep both.. the clifford unit control the alarm, remote lock/unlock, and everything else.

Alpine might make good sound systems but in theft deterrent, Alpine has one of the worst alarm systems available. DEI makes the best systems they also own
Clifford but they are also quite expensive.

Compustar is really one of your better options... I actually really like my code, I prettymuch run it 'cause that's what the local shop I'm helping out at sells, helps to be familiar with what ppl come in and aska bout. FTR, just about all aftermarket alarms have an input that you can connect your factory remotes to, but it'll usually limit your options to arm/disarm. If you want to DIY, the factory one's probobally the best way to go as aftermarket setups get rather tedious. IF you want other features such as remote start/windows/sunroof, etc. (not to mention better protection) then aftermarket's the way to go. Check the audio section for more info and the stickies for wiring guides. If you want an installer to connect remote start to a manual, tel them that you can show them a neutral safety wire, and that'll usually get them past the legalities.

i got the Viper 791 with the LCD remote and Remote start... very nice ;) got mines brande new for 310$ installed....
