hey guys, i was reading some car mag and they tested a bunch of cars and gave the numbers. the protege 5 was faster in the slalom than the mp3. that sucks.

Yeah...ummmm....right....sure....Whatever

Sorry, but I've driven every single Protege, heck the dealer gave me a 5 speed p5 for like 3-4 days while I was waiting for my MP3. There's just NO WAY it's better. Way too much body roll, and it's like a lot slower.

Just proof that you shouldn't always believe what you read.

Curious though, what mag?

As a protege5 owner i'd like to think thats true..but no..I can't see it either....while the P5 is no slouch its not a wuick as the mp3..but its alos not WAY slower..only 10 horsepower more in the mp3...When i add my Intake and exhaust that difference should be made up..
either way its all good.

Well, maybe not WAYYYYY.....but the P5 does 0-60 in like the mid 10's (correct me if I'm wrong, been a long time since I read anything on the p5), and the MP3 is mid 8's. Factor in the extra weight of the p5, center of gravity.....yup, slower. Don't get me wrong, I love the p5, heck I was in the process of buying one, then the dealer found out just before I signed on the dotted line, that there were 2 mp3's coming in. But, your gonna need more then just an intake and some exaust to catch an mp3. HP isn't the only factor.

i dont remember what mag, it had the mp3 on the cover, it said something about car of the year competition. it was road and track or car and driver, idunno didnt have any money on me at the time to get it, ill go to the store and try to find it. idunno but it said it about a mile or two faster in the slalom. maybe not but thats what it said.

I did read in Road & Track that the MP3 out performed the Corvette Z06 in the slalom. By 3/mph and it was a faster time as well.

Can a P5 boast that. I think not :D

hahah tru tru
but can your protege outperform a P5..you can't boast that!

:)
this is turning in to the battle of the newf's
:p

o.k. heres what my 2cents are.....
nov.2001, road and track, mp3 68.5mph slalom and .84g skid pad!
the numbers on the page above say....p5 65mph slalom and.79g skid pad!
the winna...........mp3................. and you know this man :p

I believe the article you are referring to was the December 2001 edition of Motortrend Magazine in the "Car of the year" article.

As a P5 owner I would say that there was probably some tester error in the numbers so I would take them with a grain of salt. I'm sure the MP3 could outperform the P5 in a slalom (sp?).

But quit slagging the P5. It's a great car, it doesn't have the after market suspension but the stock suspension on the P5 is just GREAT. And it isn't way slower, I don't know where you got the 10+ number from because most articles I read are slightly above 9 for 0-60. You only have 10HP more. Neither cars are very fast, so the MP3s speed is nothing to brag about (It's peppy but it's no Si).

That's my 2 cents

Never slouched the P5 that's a bomb ass ride and it's peppy for a 130hp wagon 0-60mph in just a tad over 9sec maybe with 10000miles or more they might test it again and hit 8.7sec assuming though. (MAYBE)
