overboosting question?????

Hi everyone. I hope i can get some good feedback from anyone interested. I like how in this forum people are so willing to help others, so hopefully i can get this answered. I have a 2008.5 MS3 + Injen coldair, Turboxs DP and MP, Turboxs BPV, CPe rear mount, and hopefully if it will work a Turboxs MBC (I really want 18psi to finish the job because i dont want to do more mods than this).

This is a question to anyone that can help... I installed my Turboxs manual boost controller yesterday. the car ran great with the initial setting (boost controller turned all the way negative) it was doing like 8 to 10psi. I got to a nice empty open road by my house and started tuning. after a while of increasing the boost little by little, it suddenly went to like 24psi and the turbo screamed, then boost cut came and saved the day. now obviousle first you would think that "damn! a line blew off the actuator or compressor housing and im running open wastegate". not the case though, all lines where fine, so i uninstalled it thinking maybe the boost controller took a poop. ran it back to stock and it was fine. boost chillin at 15 to 16psi.now when i unistalled it i noticed that somehow i ripped the line that goes from the manifold to the top of the blow off valve. I replaced it before i tested it without the boost controller.

My question is, could this have caused it to run open wastegate???

How many counter clockwise turns did you do when "tuning"? As a suggestion, I'd check and set it using 3rd gear or perhaps 4th since its a 6 speed, to see where it holds. Not exactly sure what MS3 stock boost is but seeing how you want to go to 18 psi, don't turn it more than 2-3 full turns initially. And when you get close to your desired psi setting, adjust it in quarter turns vs full turns. That's always worked for me.

I had done at the most 3 full turns to get past 10psi and thats when the s*** opened up and i guess screwed up the boost. also i was told when tuning to do 3rd and 4th gear pulls. but i dont get it why would my wastegate open up like that???

yea i tried W.O.T 1st and 2nd gear and it went to 24psi too. i really think that the line that was ripped going to the top of the blow off valve is what caused this to happen. just dont know why a vacuum line on the BOV would do that.

Make sure that you installed it with the stamped mark facing in right direction. 3 turns should not give you that amount of psi increase. And are you saying that your gauge settled at 24 psi or that when going WOT it approaches 24psi, but falls off and settles where you want it?

TXS has good customer service so you might want to contact them if you keep having a problem.
