Opinions wanted!

I once again summon the power of the forum! :) I'm looking for a decent winter vehicle and I have stumbled upon a 1993 MPV 4x4. Some quick research on Edmonds gives me about a 50/50 approval/disapproval rating. The nay sayers cited problems with the tranny and a design flaw that could cause the engine rods to fail. But all of these people had the problem at much lower milage than this van has on it. I drove it, listened to it, crawled under it and it seemed sound enough. Can i get some feed back from anyone who has some advice about this year/model?

What's the price on it? If the people had problems at LOWER mileage, that just sounds like yours is going to be ready to blow at any moment...You're possibly asking for trouble.

They're asking $1700 for it. It has very high milage but it seemed to run quite well. As i mentioned, half the reviews never had the problems the others did. They were split right down the middle. Love it or hate it.

I don't know about these MPV's personally, but cars like this(known history of problems) always seem to hold together until about a week after you pay for it. Then it just craps out on you. Then you are out the car, or the money to replace it. Just my 2 cents.

My buddy had a 1993 MPV with AWD and they put 300,000+ miles on it before they gave up on it. Only major problems they ever had was the transmission. I think it went through 3 in that time. It spent a lot of time going back and forth over the Santa Cruz mountains and serving as a band van so it was driven pretty hard.
