I used it 2 oil changes and never had a problem. I heard a few say bad things about it. Switched to Mobil 1 and have been running that over 15k miles and no issues.
I bought a case of 5W-40 and did my last oil change with it ... stuff is VERY expensive and not worth the extra cost IMO ... next time I'll just go with regular dino oil and change it regularly.
I work with a guy who drag races professionaly and he gave me some information about Royal Purple that helped me make my decision not to go with it.
Yes it is a great product and does help to reduce friction better than most other oils, but there is a downside. The additives they use to make it purple cause alot of build up inside the engine. It is designed for racing motors that get torn down and rebuilt every season. For a daily driver that is bad news since most of us never tear apart our engines.
He uses Mobile 1 synthetic on his daily driver which has 250k miles. (Ford Lightning and still hauls but)
i have been using mobil1 for 33,000miles, i have never seen smoke, and have used 5000 mile intervals in between, good stuff, maybe 55$ for a service center oil change
