One Of The Best Days Of My Life Has Turned Into One Of The Worse

BINGO!!!!!

that was my first thought as well. I think that if my (future) daughter/son hit their gf/bf's car and I actually liked the kid, that I would do everything I could to right the situation. It sounds like her parents dont care, enough so to make me think they dont like you or your relationship with their daughter. Think about it... If it was a complete stranger, this post wouldnt be here.

My thoughts - contact you insurance company and let them know, theyll do all the other work to contact/collect payment from her insurance company. THEN tell her/her parents that you couldnt afford to fix it yourself and HAD to go through the insurance company. That way you wont look like the badguy by calling her out on something she should be fixing anyway.

Do what ever you need to do to get her to help pay for it then leave. If she loved you it would be no big deal to her and she would have fix it willingly. I know it sounds harsh, like she told you, she loves money more then she loves you.

the thing is she would pay for it, she admits its at least partially her fault but then she thinks i made a stupid decision driving around the parking lot again. I know it may not have been the smartest but it doesnt matter, she backed into me and i had the right of way, what if someone else was in my place and i had left? shed still be completely at fault. At this point she has offered to pay for it and she wants to but her mom wont let her use that money to pay for it because her mom claims that its not her fault, and i also had 2 witnesses in the car with me that say i didnt do anything wrong, bottom line, im going to get an estimate or 2 and then take it to the parents and discuss everything, if they still wont budge and dont offer to pay for the damages then ill go to insurance because if the damages are over 750 it has to be reported to the dmv and if shes found at fault i think she will lose her license because she is under 18. at least thats what i was told the law was in california, cant find anything that specidifcly says the consequences of a provisional drivers license accident. i dont want that to happen either which is another reason i havent reported it to insurance or dmv yet

**** that mom!!!!! dirty rich b****!!! go to the dam cops man!!!!!!!!!! MAN THE **** UP!!!!! its your car, it was her fault, and make the b**** pay!!!! or the cops will!!! dude theres more fish in the sea! and by the looks of it, your not on a good note with her parents! and u probbally wont be for a while, **** her one last time and just do what u gotta do man!!!! MAN UP!

Insurance policy % responsibility for parking lot incidents vary from state to state. I had to sue this b**** in small claims b/c her insurance wouldnt pay for the full amount of fault and b/c they felt it was even they ddint have to pay out anything.

So take your soon to be ex-gf's parents to small claims and sue em for the cost of court, repairs, and rental car. Take pics and a written estimate from the best and most expsensive body shop you can find.

LOL Oh man, I wonder how it feels to have all of us tell you that your relationship is over? That would suck so bad I would sue he mom for all I could and BUNK the girl. Oh and don't forget to take your witnesses!

I dont know why but this mom angers me. stupidity never ceases to amaze me. see if the daughter is in the will and if so, marry the daughter and kill the mother-in-law. should be a rule of marriage.

BTW, don't hesitate on reporting the accident to your insurance company, before it may be too late to do so.

(Reporting an accident and making a claim are two entirely separate things. If her parents or her end up paying out of pocket for the damages, then you just don't file a claim with your insurance.)

wtf

Am I the only one who thinks all this is kinda weird?
If my gf would hit my car, we would work together to get things fixed and not be all "it's ur fault u pay!" attitude.
but if it would be anyone but my gf that would be another story. ;)

another thing u have to worrie bout the ins. is them puttin it on car fax and ur trade in value go down if u want to trade it in, in the future. i dont know how long u plan on keepin it.
that would be the thing i would be worried about.

here's what I would do....
ask her to marry you....
that'll really f with thier heads

or pull a graduate and bang her mom(glare)

just kiddin' call your ins company

dude i totally understand, i thought everyone was being cutthroat about it too. If my girl was like poor or i could afford it Id be willing to work with her on it. But being that she is rich, and was completely her fault i dont see what the problem is with them paying. I mean i live in a 3 bedroom house with my parents while her family can live in about any of the 7-11 houses they own in the area.

I guess I can see ur point...shouldnt be a big deal and just fix ur car if they are that rich...

how's her car btw? ;P

it really sux to be in it with ur g/f like that. she really should of helped you. and the family is against you. dont be a sucker

wow, just finished reading this thread...

I'm sorry to hear about your car...

I know here it's 50/50 in a parking lot, but if she backed into you it's her fault however you seen her backing up and stopped...I would have just stayed stopped but I'm not gonna pull teeth..

Take some pics and go through the insurance company..your insurance should not go up and they should be able to tell if you swipped her or she hit you buy the dent..assuming there is one...I know you mentioned scratches.

I had a similar incident happen to me last year in my old escort wagon..I was at the gas station and you know how they have the pumps all lined up and you go with the flow of traffic and pull in behind someone to wait...so I'm sitting there and this woman to my left backs up from the pump she was at and stops like she see's me, turns her nose to the left and then backs up and T-boned me...I cursed and lost it in the car but when I got out I was reasonably calm lol...$1600 in damage, had to get a new door albeit from a junk yard because she broke the rocker panel, so I got a new door (to me) a new power mirror, and a new paint job ...I feel your pain and now exactly the situation you had...I got all her info and called the insurance company...my insurance did not go up and I didn't have to pay a thing and they were prompt about fixing it. At the time of the accident when she left a guy came over to me and said here's my name and number, I witnessed the accident and to give it to my insurance company...which I thought was nice of him...and he waited until she left incase she threw a fit...

The insurance company is used to dealing with asshats like this...it's funny, when you think you know people you really don't...sounds to me like they're pressuring you because they think you won't put up a fight, you'll just lay back and take it because you are 18, dating their daughter and they are under the impression that money makes them invincible...therefore you should obey...

Now I don't want to mention this but it's a fact, it happens all the time and it's just another little thing that pisses me off. If you do go through the insurance her parents will likely tell her she can't see you again blah blah blah, some s*** like that to make you change your mind or your gf might do something odd...but be strong and do the insurance thing anyways...she may be your girl but you still have to look out for your self and if she's worth it she'll get over it.

I hope this works out for you. Go to your insurance company before it's too late...

Best of luck!

I went and got the estimate. They wanted 850 to pull the bumper off, repaint the entire bumber and remold the corner back to where it should be. I spoke with the parents about it and they offered to split the cost if we didnt go to insurance. They also said it sounded kind of high so they asked me to get 1 other estimate from another place which i have no problem doing. I really feel that i was 100% not in the wrong but if it comes out any other way in the eyes of insurance this will hurt my rates and im thinking about not risking it and just splitting the cost

Youre doing exactly what they want you to do. You will be a "good" son in law.
