OK...Who else thinks religion is total Bullsh!t?

801. now thats a very intelligent post. I can agree with 98% of that post and the idea's behind it. I agree that there is a strong posibility that their is or could be a creator. Its just the beginning that always gets me. Even with evolution where is the beginning how did the primordial soup start. ahhh.

I think I'll add my 2 cents worth ,Religon is a belief in something .Even those who don't believe that there is a supreme being belive in something . From this definition everyone has a religon. So how can religon be bulls***.

you left out one key point and misconstrued it. religion is not a belief in SOMTHING. Its a belief in a supreme being. Even that is a vauge definition. religion Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
So your answer is. That NOT everyone has a religion and thats how he can say religion is BS. If a belief in something is a religion than should young children start the church of santa claus or easter bunny evangilists? hehe jk

then stop saying that i'm saying he's full of bulls*** for not believing. i never said that. and never would i say that.

i think ur in denial or feeling guilty, cuz i never onces pointed you out, except ur comment that he should respect 1/3 of the worlds religion which is christianity, and i did this becuz that was a stupid remark, just becuz 1/3 the world believes that means u should respect it becuz the majority of the world is that.. which is bulls***.. the rest of what i said had nothing to do with you.

you want respect it has to be earned, and it isn't earned through 1/3 of the population being this or that.. you dont get respect that way.

too....many.....posts.....to.....read.....through......it's bulls*** because it's comprised of fables written by ancient men. They are stories that are meant to teach a morality code of the day and not meant literally. People who say they believe know deep inside that it can't possibly be true but they speak outwardly of belief out of some irrational fear that has been built into religion. According to the bible the earth is 6000 years old and dinosaurs and humans lived together.....'nuff said.

I think if I posted what I really wanted to say, everyone in this group would hate me forever....at least the religous ones. I'm holding back :)

"I think that religion is a needed backbone that helps to produce a productive, self aware, intelligent full individual. It gives one feeling of self and meaning of self.

Those who lack religion ultimatly will lack the basic building blocks that are vital to a full life and the meanings that are found within that life. "

I take offense to this, and I am probably the most anti-religous person you'll find. Does that mean I'm an asshole, and I'm not enjoying life? This is just Just typical of someone's religion shaping their opinions on others.

.....must ....hold.....back......

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God."

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty."

"you left out one key point and misconstrued it. religion is not a belief in SOMTHING. Its a belief in a supreme being. Even that is a vauge definition. religion Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. "

What about the people who are wiggens ,they deal with the elements ,earth ,wind ,fire and air . from your definition they are not religious .

I am probably the most anti-religous person you'll find.

No way dood....it's me :)

Check out my tat. I grow more intolerant of religion all the time because although I fully support the 1st amendment and the freedoms it provides for religious and non-religious alike, the same consideration is not given us by the religious leaders and politicians who seek to force their doctrine upon the american people through some sick revisionist interpretation of our founding doctrines. Just ask Judge Roy Moore and his countless supporters :)

Ok, I didn't really want to get involved in this because I'm a newbie and because I hate religious debates, but I feel I need to say something. This is not a flame or anything, just my opinion taken from experience.

Some of you are going to walk outside today and you'll feel the wind blowing through your hair or hear it in the trees. You can't see the wind, but you know it's there because you see the effects of it. I'm not here to criticize other religions at all, but I'm a Christian. I believe in Jesus Christ. Not a religion. I don't put my faith in orginizations or people. I put my faith in a God of perfect love. I can't see him, but I see the effects of him.

Don't worry I'm not going to preach anything, but the Bible says try the spirits and see if they be true. In other words don't just believe in something because it seems right or not believe in it because it doesn't seem right. Look at the evidence of it. Look at what fruit it's producing.

I've literally seen a deaf person's ears opened in front of my eyes and they were able to hear again. I've seen someone bent over in pain, crippled, straighten up and walk without a cane anymore. This wasn't on TV. I saw it in real life. I could recount hundreds of times like this. At that moment any doubts that you have about what's real and what's not are washed away because what's real is right in front of you. I don't know how God does things because his ways are far above mine, but I DO know that he does them. I have experienced this in my own life.

Besides why would you want to put your faith in men? Men fail. I fail. We're imperfect. Wouldn't you want to believe in something higher? Something with unfailing love and mercy? I would. I would rather believe in a God that can give me peace when I'm broken or give me wisdom when I just don't know what to do.

I'm not going to tell you what the consequences are of dying without knowing the God that I know because most of have probably already heard it. Let me tell you this though. If I'm wrong about my faith then I will die and I will be forgotten. but if I'm right about what I am saying. Just what IF? Then where will you be when that time comes? Just something to think about. Everyone has the right to their own decision. Belief in this is something never to be forced on anyone. It is a choice, but I know that one day you and I will find out who has chosen correctly. I believe that I have. Are you sure that you have?

What part of a book (the bible) which was written by men makes you believe this? Why not the Koran or Dianetics? We call David Koresh and Jim Jones lunatics but we hold up this Jesus guy.....the only difference here that I see is about 2000 years. How can you easily cast aside all the other superstitions held by ancient people yet still hold this one up as some kind of truth?

Drumming Dude! Howdy! You are my neighbor (just down the road) - but your Avatar scares me!

Like I said, I'm not debating. I'm just posting my opinion. I said the reason I believe in Jesus and no one else. It was for the fact that those people were healed in front of me. In other words, I believe it because I have seen it. There's no way to put it into words. You have to experience it. If you haven't experienced it then there's no way you can understand it. It has nothing to do with you, but you just won't know and understand the feeling until you yourself have felt what I'm talking about.

oh my..........

Religion is a crutch for the weak. I've heard that said before and have a tendency to believe it. I happen to be a non-practicing catholic. Religion is just a turnoff to me in the same way as Politics. Some of the worst offenders are either involved in religion or politics.

Rev Al. Sharpton? Hate preacher
Rev. Jesse Jackson? Another hate preacher
The whole catholic church and their sex scandals.

I guess I'm more fed up with religion being used as a means to justify a bad existence. I know alot of people who are the biggest thugs, worst liars, and cheaters..and most of them go to church. Try to be "forgiven" for the prior weeks sins so their slate is clean for the coming weeks debouchery.

I believe there is a God, I chose not to enter his house and be among the many hypocrites it houses. I just try to be the best person I can be. If I go to hell for that..so be it.

Are you my long lost twin brother? Wow... :)

Part 1

Religion is just a way to control man. Look back through history, and you will find countless leaders that have used religions and gods to justify their actions and get followers to abide. Dont even really have to go back that far.Sept 11 ring a bell? Religion is also an excuse used my man, and way to explain the un-explainable. Why are things un-explainable, because we don't have the technology or science to explain it yet. Hundreds of years ago, man thought that earth quakes were their god(s) being mad.

Hmmmm, god make ground shake, make hut fall down. Must sacrifice nearest virgin to make god happy again. Next day comes around, its nice out.... hmmm, god happy again, me did good, didnt need daughter anyways.

Now we know how earth quakes happen, and hurricanes and such, so guess what....no god involved there eh. I can go through countless examples like this but if your half smart you know where Im going with it. Read through the bible or any religious folk tale and there are soooo many holes in it, so many things that science can prove wrong its hilarious. As time moves on and tech. gets better, more and more things just keep getting proven by science.

The bible is nothing more then a bunch of fables passed down by uneducated men/women. Granted at one point it was probably stories told around the camp fire as no one could WRITE. But think about the times were are talking about here. Were not talking that long after the ooga booga stage. There was NO education, hardly anyone could write any language yet alone read it, things got around by word of mouth. Ever play that game in school where you whisper a short story in someones ear, they then turn around and whisper it someone elses, and by the time it gets around the classroom the final story is nothing like the first? How are we, now educated people supposed to believe something passed around like that? The whole jesus Christ thing could be some story so thrown out of whack by a bunch of uneducated idiots high on shrooms( of course they didnt know what shrooms were so nothing was wrong right?). Hmm, let me see, Oh, and the whole Adam and Eve thing is real because they wrote everything down in a diary right away right? Better yet, they had a blog on the internet? And passed all this down to the rest of the caveman they have birth to, and this eventually became the bible I guesswhatever.

There is NO proof that any of the bible is real. The only proof religious people use to prove that it is real, is the bible itself WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN PROVEN TO BE TRUE. How can someone justify that something is real by using examples from the same thing their trying to brainwash you into believing is real in the 1st place???? What up wit dat?

I said it ages back. I believe what I believesomething called SCIENCE. Now, someone else will believe in religion or some supreme being with some super duper magic power. Fine, believe it, I dont care. But do NO s*** on me because I dont believe it. Dont call me a lesser of a person because of some all high and mighty image that some book, priest and church is telling you we should all be.
