Will the oil filters that fit the 2.3L v4 Focus fit the 04 Mazda 3?
Also will the K&N filter for a 2.3L v4 Focus fit the 04 Mazda 3?

I haven' been able to find any after market filters that specifically reference the Mazda 3 yet.

I wouldn't count on it. Why use focus parts? You're not going to gain any performance from an oil filter or air filter anyway. Just use the mazdastuff and dont waste your money.

Because from what I read, so far, and I might be wrong because I haven't paid detailed attention, is that they both had the same motors in the car. I am not looking for an oil filter and an air filter to add horse power, I just do not like relying on a dealership for parts and value the aftermarket community.

Competition means lower prices and a better overall quality product.

Thats why we have coke and pepsi :)

true, I believe the motors ARE the same, but I wouldn't bank on it without cross-referencing. Call your local Jiffy Lube or what-not....ask them what type/size filter the 04 Focus uses...then sk them to check the M3 filter. If it's the same number than I'd say yes. I used to work for a quick-lube and there are MANY interchangable filters.

"or what-not"

someone has been watching to much American Chopper on Discovery...lol

and beavis needs to know that Focus has an INLINE-4 engine, not a V-4

but yeah i think the oil filter should interchange, not too sure about the intake filter though (may have different airbox design)

works for me. Thanks for correcting my mistake. Too many years of dealing with V-8's

FYI, the oil filter will not gain you anymore HP, but will possible keep things cleaner. The air filter will be more likey too. This is due to a more free and dynamic air flow system. Mazda as well as other manufactures place parts on cars for a reason. Some being higher performance, others being cost saving. The air filter is one of the cost saving parts. They know that ppl are more then likely going to buy aftermarker rather then factory parts due to the type of car this is. So they do not invest in the air filter much. However, do not expect great gaines from just an air filter, but rather better fuel economy. There might be 1 or 2 HP gain, but you would never notice it.

the two engines ARE NOT the same.
The Mazda uses the new MZR engine, which I believe is different from the current Ford Focus.

actually for '04 Ford IS using the 2.3 'MZR' from the 3/6 for their PZEV Focus.

Oh okay :) I stand corrected then.

But either way, it's still not the same engine as the old Focus. As far as I know, MZR parts are limited to OEM Mazda stuff.
