Mobil 1 full synthetic 15w-50w. (supposedly best for turbos...) Mazda OEM filter

I tried 15w-50 for 3K miles..now I have 10w-30...revs smoother. I think 15w-50 is too heavy and a bit of overkill

Mobil 1, or any other major brand full synthetic, 5W-30, Mazda filter.

Dexter is correct, Mazda says to use 3.75 quarts of oil. Ive done hundreds of oil changes and I have never added more then 3.75 (thats always even to much or just enough). If you leave the car there for 10 min then plug add filter it takes 3.75 with oil even in filter.

If your adding 4 quarts to a Protege then something is probably wrong or Im insane and been screwing customers.

i lied; i went and checked, im not running 10w30, i am using 15w50. i also think it is too heavy.
