About to do my 2nd oil change. The first was free from the dealer at 3000 miles and now we are at 6000 miles and unless I am convinced to do otherwise, i will be putting in Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Intended oil changes at 5000 miles.

thought and suggestions are welcome

Why are you deviating from the factory maintenance schedule with a brand new car?

Any idea if that's category 3 or 4 oil? I seem to remember that a synthetic with a natural (dinosaur bones) base is OK for your seals but you don't want to touch a synthetic base under 50k. I forget the holy grail of oil sites, something like bobistheoilguy or something like that, but there's more than you ever wanted to know about oil there.

Honestly, before I'd pay extra on a vehicle that only *I* drive for extra oil changes or synthetic oil, I'd invest a bit in oil analysis. At least that way you would know if your driving style is fine or if a different oil is for you.

Are there any hard conditions that you're running it under?

no reason to change every 3k unless you are beating the hell outta the car. i believe the manual says every 5k for "extreme" conditions.

and yes, bobistheoilguy.com

He is right. Every 5k not 3K. A synthetic blend oil is used by Mazda.

Any auto parts supplier, fram makes them.*I have an 09 mazda6 GT with 2.5 liter.

Also change the oil every 5k, i use synthetic oil, but thats personal preference.

How is cold weather treating you guys?

Doing 7500 mile changes (on my 3rd):
1st was mazda stuff
2nd was mobil 7500 synthetic
3rd was mobil (dinosaur bones) [today]

I've heard a LOT of trouble with cold starts and mine was wheezing (dying seal -the animal- noises) -- wondering what people are using up north if they start smoother.

Thanks.

Iuse regular old quaker state, 10/30. Never heard any whining and never had a start problem even in the extreme cold....(bump)

I recently purchased a used 09 Mazda6 i GT MT(6spd) and took it for the 15K service (oil change, tire rotation, full inspection, etc.).

While I was there, the service manager had 2 recalls to perform on my car (PCM, and door handle).

My car is garage kept in Texas 40 degree winter, and I get slight hesitation in the first 2 gears in the morning...I am guessing that this is normal.?

I have the same model - no ECM -- can you get the details of that bulletin?

40 degree winter? (argh) That's an oxy-moron.

No, it's not normal . . . it's definitely only when it's totally cold (UNLESS for some dumb reason they put much lighter weight tranny fluid in your particular vehicle).

The invoice lists the recall as:
E** MSP 27 Readness Code Evap
XXE5KBFX PCM Reprogramming MSP27
5313 WM9

The other recall is Outer Door Handle.
