Oil Catch Can

I know it is getting confusing, i just had issues had to figure out.

Newest update:

Today i installed the Catch Can inline of the PCV valve and the intake manifold, making sure everything was air tight, then i installed the straight tubing from the valve vent back to the intake ( i dont believe i have ever had any or much blow by through there, my intake and turbo always seem clean)

I went out and beat on the car for about 30mins and got no more then a drop or so of oil in the can (which might have been in the lines from before) So it is possible to have a catch can inline of the PCV valve, but you can share it with the valve cover vent. So i guess we need 2 catch can if we want to monitor both.

latest location. i think this is where it is gonna stay. i need to clean up the hoses and get 1 small hose clamp. It holds air tight though no leaks. The manifold doesnt see more then 13psi.

After driving all around today, boosting heavily at times. i managed to get some oil in the catch can, not much, but some. I would estimate about a teaspoon.

Awesome and cheap catch can idea! Are you going to do a full writeup? :) what size hose was used? Thanks

Well, I went with a cheapy Ebay Oil catch can, one of those replica's. I have it hooked up to my valve cover vent and it seems like I'm not getting much in there. But I better check tommorow cause I ran her hard tonight. But what I did was, hook it up to one of the connections, blocked off the other connection and have it venting to the atmosphere.

Would you recommend hooking it up in the PCV valve location or valve cover loaction?

I saw something in the thread where he stated it may be a good bet to use two cans? I'm thinking a conventional one off the pcv line and the small one off the valve cover vent? Hoping Paul can clear things up ;)

Hooking it up to the valve cover, i never got any oil. It doesnt seem anybody has really got any oil out of that vent. Some guys have a breather filter right on the vent, and there would be oil comming out if it passing oil.

If you want both to have a catch can, you need to use 2 cans, unless you find a way around it, and i dont want my valve cover vent to see boost. The PCV valve needs to be routed back into the intake manifold so it has pressure to open and close the valve. When i had it hooked up to my intake, it filled with oil fast, and made my car run wierd.

I may do some type of write up someday, the pics are posted. It is really quite simple, if you have any ?'s post them here and i'll tell you what to do.

I am really good at following directions so a write up with pictures would be awesome!

i just got one of those filters from lowes and i have some questions. first did you take out the filter from the center of the tank? and also what about the warning on the side of the tank that says to avoid "synthetic oils"?

i removed the filter.

I cant see how synthetic oils would hurt the container, Im not to worried about it.

Just out of curiosity, I hooked one of these up to my car, connecting the oil catch can to the PCV valve atop the valve cover, and the other source to the intake manifold... Mine's collected oil to about one eighth full durring the drive into work this morning... The car seems to be functioning as per the norm, but I do wonder why so much oil blows through the valve... So, you were saying the car wasn't running properly when you did this, Paul?

what i was saying, was when i had the PCV and the valve cover vent piped into the intake(seeing no boost) it filled up instantly. With the catch can in line of the pcv valve and the intake mani, it fills about 1/4 every few days. Im gonna get around to getting a new pcv and see if it still passes oil.

My car running wierd, wasnt related to the catch can, i recently found a hole in mani which was causing the exhaust leak and fluttering noise.

I'm still lost....I don't see the difference in location in this statement. It sounds like the exact same thing.

EDIT: Wait, I see it now, when you said "seeing no boost" I thought you meant you weren't mashing the throttle. What you really meant was "pre-compressor" intake. Got it..(stooges)

sorry about the confusion, if you look at the PCV valve and see where it dumps into, it makes more sense.

FYI:

Simple Fuel Filter, sealed and built to handle some pressure.

1.5 months later....NO OIL....I have since taken it off.

i'm getting oil in my turbo to IC pipes and also my inlet pipe to my turbo just a light flim.. but i'm getting oil.. so should i do this? i have a breather on my valve cover thing.

bring this tread back from the dead.

I have since took out the oil catch tank on the valve cover vent cause i didn't get any oil once so ever. I hooked the can up the PCV location and I've been getting some oil there. About half of a tea spoon so far after 3-4 days. I have have changed the PCV valve as well.
