Oil Catch Can

That looks like a re-oiler for a air compresser. Those are used to keep your airtools properly oiled while being used with the compressor. I have one hooked up to my air compressor right now....just not clear.. Good Idea!

Where did you get it? How much? Part number?

Of course you can wait until you have "success" to share.
I got it at Lowes.. It cost $19.44, the 2 barb fittings where another $3 or so.

I wanted to buy a oil catch can for a while, but they where all so big. This one seems perfect.

Linux, i got it in the air tools department, so i guess that is the purpose of it.

the inside of the hose i cut had some oil residue, but not much at all. It seems when i take my PCV valve off there is more residue in that line. Hopefully i can make it to the store to pick up some hose, and a "Y" barb fitting, to run the pcv valve through also.

I will keep everyone posted on oil collected.

yeh that was my friend who had it on his srt-4.. pretty nifty idea. I'm thinking about letting him do it for me too. u should see how much crap oil is caught in there on the srt-4 in just 3 days..

Good Info guys!

I feel a how-to coming on as well, you know you want to!

OK help Mr. Stupid out here. Will this help to keep oil and stuff out of intercooler and other air piping? I used intercooler tubes from old turbo Volvos (there are a disproportionate number of them in junkyards, bad maintenance!!), and most of them had oil and stuff in them. (sick)

ditto, my friends srt4 has to be emptied every 2-3 days. crazy.

Well, if it doesn't go into the catch can, it will go back into the intake pipe behind the MAF...and then into the turbo, and throughout the piping and IC and such.

Just put the T inline and added the PCV valve to the catch can. The PCV valve, usually dumps right into the intake manifold in two places. Now i just used a 8" or so piece of vacuum hose and hooked them together so i have no leaks.

Im glad your friend showed me that, that was the first time i really got to check out a srt-4.Im not sure i met you, but your friend seemed like a real nice guy.

Can someone do a big write up on this & lots of pictures & put in the "How To Section". I deff want to do this the same day I put my turbo on.

Keep us updated on how much oil you get in there.
After driving around all day with the catch can inline of the valve cover vent. I got NO oil at all. Now heres the catch. I have thought in the past that my pcv valve was going bad. I had some mysterious oil missing before, and pulled the valve and saw some oil residue on the line. I played around with it blowing in it and shaking it, and my oil problem was gone. So today i hook the PCV valve up to the catch can, drive about 4 miles, hitting boost radomly. My boost spikes up 12.5psi (im running 10.5 now not sure if this was radom or what, but my boost never spikes) I get to where im going, pop the hood, and the can is 1/3 way full. so i pour it back into the engine, an hr. later get in the car, go home, pop the hood. Now it is 3/4 of the way full WTF. I start thinking.. then i realize that the pcv must see pressure since it usually dumps into the intake which sees boost. Im not to sure how a PCV valve works, i know it is some sort of check valve. Im gonna go buy a new one regardless. I priced one out last time at the dealer, and it was 17$ so i past. I also know the msp and mp3 use the same one.

I know hooked it up to just the valve cover again, i think my car is fluttering a little when nearing 0psi, but i may just be paranoid. Im gonna pull my intake piping tomorrow looking for oil that might have got sucked it through the turbo causing the fluttering.

I also did a compression test. from passenger side to driver side it was 187,187,177,185 is that 177 bad? i feel those 3 are all kinda high anyways.

im gonna probally start a new thread to see if there is a better/more boost friendly PCV valve or if it makes a differerence. For now noone hook up there pcv valve to a catch can :(

So, Cooch and YP5. . .are your recommendations to do this to both? And what kind of catch can do you recommend?

(lol) You inadvertantly called him a cooch!

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate you pointing out my typo. . . Kind of funny, but certainly not what I had intended. . .now back to the thread at hand before I report you to the mods for threadjacking. . .whoa. . .wait a minute. . .

P.S. Don't you have a standalone to install? Get to work!

Hahaha! I think I'm gonna try this mini catch can thing.

i now know why i had a boost spike.. seems i have a bad exhaust leak where my mani touches the engine. THis was also screwing with my AFR since i use the MAF to tune with. I had my mani off last week, im gonna grab a new gasket while im picking up my PCV valve.

You have an exhaust leak that is messing with your AFR? (uhm)

What were you doin' to it man? I think you need to replace the exhaust gasket every time, otherwise, you'll leak, those metal gaskets are not reusable.

My MPI tuner runs off the MAF and throttle position so i am assuming that becausr of the leak, i am hitting boost much later (definitly can feel the xtra lag) Iit is dumping fuel to early since my boost comes on later.

Yea I re-used the old gasket.. well, Im getting my new DP this weeks, so i will pull the mani at the same time. This time i willl use a new gasket.(doh)
