Official VW GTI and R36 Thread

Famous last words ....i said the same thing about my wrx...then got showed up by a few guys around where i live and went with a simple stage 1 reflash....then that wasn't enough...stage2 is now here and still I NEED MO POWA! The prob with my car is more power = expensive broken parts (moon)wrxstocktrans...but i put together a simple yet long list of mods that will take me about 5 years to do. It should be fun!
Yeah it'll be tough but I think after suffering through with the Protege5 I'd be able to withstand the urge to do major modifications to a car that already has 300 hp. I'll always mod my cars to an extent but never again like what I've done to the P5. It still drives alright enough to be a daily driver but it has its issues. That and the fiance' hates it. I've actually been looking at late-model 3 Series and thinking about just doing some simple bolt ons and maybe an ECU reflash as long as the driveability is still there. Wheels and a drop are always a must as well.

Back on topic though, I would seriously have to consider an R42 is they bring them over here and offer a four-door variant (unlikely because all the previous ones have been two-door). If only the "Plus" didn't come with that stupid DSG!

You know that the current A3 3.2 quattro is the same thing as the R32 but with 4 doors, right? I don't know that the suspension tuning is identical, but the drivetrain's the same, and it's got more features. Not too much difference in price new either.

Too bad they don't offer it with a standard manual transmission though. This is why I've started to dislike Audi and VW lately!

A 'GTD' variant using a 2.0-liter common rail diesel will go into production in April 2009, with 170 horses and nearly 260 lb.-ft. moving through either a six-speed manual or VW's DSG gearbox. The GTD will be sold at an 800 premium over its gasoline brother, and will get to 62 mph about a second slower in return for longer hauls between refills.

yes, please.

by far, the ugliest wheels vw has ever created. they look like the first mock up made it to the final design. sweet looking car otherwise.
