Official Update re: Koni for MS3

Thanks for input. I have upgraded bars and springs and am looking at topping off the handling bits come spring. And the adjustable Koni has my attention but i am not sold yet. But I am not really seeking daily driver comfort anyways. I guess i should keep listening to the reports and opinion from you folks.

that is correct - the adjuster on Konis is meant to be turned axially... with a normal shock (not a strut like the front), there's no way to integrate a knob on a koni mechanism since you have pivot bushings at both ends... so you have to unbolt at least one end and turn it manually.

The rep from Koni said a good starting point with my Mazdaspeed Sport springs would be to set it at '2' and go from there.

Actually, the Ford Focus (built on the global C170 platform which is the predecessor to the C1 platform that the Mazda3 uses) uses rear shocks (its suspension architecture is basically the same as the MS3's) that use a pivot bushing on the bottom but a threaded shaft at the top where it attaches to the unibody near the apex of the wheel arch. This allows the use of a conventional rotating adjuster at the end of the shaft. Adjusting the Koni Yellows in my Focus was a snap...

Too bad they changed things up when the they evolved the C170 platform into the C1...
