Official Thread: Paris Motor Show 2008

Good stuff. Thanks for the info. Not a lot that excites me though. More SUV-ish type things, more overpriced lexus variants, pointless 2 door wagon-coupe -hatch things from Mercedes and oh yeah....AN OFF ROAD MINI!!! Wha-huh? I'll keep looking though.

After the 6 part series of teaser images, excitement for this concept was starting to wane. However, Citroen have finally pulled off the red sheet on the GT Concept, and we are happy to say that our enthusiasm has been restored.

Intended for the virtual world through Sony's Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation 3, Citroen has constructed a tangible version for the real world. Measuring 4.960m in length, 2.080m in width and 1.090m in height the GT Concept is a substantial size. Enhancing its overall presence are the foreboding wheel arches with diamond-effect 21-inch aluminium wheels tucked under, and exaggerated rear end, which Citroen admits is oversized.

No specific technical details are given, but we can see from the photos that the doors open in gullwing fashion and driving information is projected onto the windshield via head-up display using red LEDs.

MUNICH, Germany BMW is using the 2008 Paris Auto Show to reveal a concept version of its upcoming X1 compact SUV.

The fenders wheel cuts make it look like a Tiguan, but other than that, just a 2nd gen X3 (which market will take on anyway as the article says)

Body kit anyone? Reminds me of the Renault R5...

If there's one French recipe we love, it's this: take a mundane Renault economy car, fit it with wild bodywork, and shoehorn a powerful motor in lieu of a rear seat. That procedure worked wonders for cars like the 5 Turbo and Clio Renault Sport, and it looks as if the new 2009 Renault Megane Trophy, unveiled at this week's Paris motor show, will be no exception.

We'll give Renault some credit - we were expecting to see the new Megane, completely restyled and re-worked for 2009, but we weren't expecting to see this. And how could we not? With a track as wide as the Champs-Elysees and an extremely chopped roofline, the Megane Trophy has the visual gravitas of a true sports car - or at least its 5 Turbo ancestor.

It does, thankfully, carry some performance credentials to match. Behind the cockpit lies a Nissan-sourced 3.5-liter V-6, tuned to the key of some 360 hp. Renault claims that 30-hp boost comes courtesy of forced-air induction, which is ducted through a scoop mounted just above the windshield.

Incredibly, Renault says the Megane Trophy can turn similar lap times to a Porsche 911 GT3, but we may never see for ourselves. The Megane Trophy will be relegated to Renault's one-make Eurocup Megane Trophy series - and while that may make for some interesting spec-racing, we'd love to see one of these mix it up with a GT3 out at Le Mans.

Its that time again, when Mitsubishi unveils the new generation Colt. Baby Colt was shown at the Paris Motor Show for the first time and is coming to a Mitsubishi dealer near you, in Europe anyway, next Spring. In keeping up with the competition, the Colt will be offered in 1.1-litre, 1.3-litre and 1.5-litre Clear Tec engine variants. These are good for 75ps (100Nm), 95ps (125Nm) and 109ps (145Nm) each respectively. All in petrol. The last Colt diesel sold dismally so Mitsu will not go down that slippery spiky path again this time around. The engines are equipped with automatic stop and go technology to help improve fuel economy and reduce bad emissions. Standard is a 5-speed manual transmission but an AllShift automated manual is offered with the 1.3.

Ralliart as any world car fan knows, is a badge synonymous with Lancer performance but has now been introduced for baby Colt as well. The Colt Ralliart replaces the old 3-door CZT and adds another innovation to the name by giving an extra two doors for variation, if you prefer it. So puny power becomes practical as well. The car runs a 150ps 1.5-litre turbo engine on both versions. As far as equipment goes, since you are not paying too much for these cars you arent getting that much back either. Some nice features include an auxiliary plug for audio inputs, cruise control and come home lighting.

With the revival of the Abarth tuning division, Fiat is serious about motorsports. They've been racking up victories in the Intercontinental Rally Championship with the Punto, and have even been sponsoring Valentino Rossi's MotoGP Yamaha. And to drive the point home, while the "esseesse" (read: SS) version of the Cinquecento Abarth was the division's new reveal, it was this racing version, called the Assetto Corse, that took center stage.

The Assetto Corse is, of course, based on the same Fiat 500 that's been selling like adorable little hotcakes in every market it's hit so far. But the cute factor is gone, replaced by big air scoops, giant wings, roll cages and little scorpion badges everywhere. (And we do mean everywhere.) The little racing car that could is packed with a 1.4-liter 16-valve turbocharged four driving 190 hp through a six-speed shifter to the front set of 17" powder-coated white alloys hiding 4-piston Brembo calipers. The interior has a full roll cage and racing bucket, and an aggressive aero package sets the exterior apart from its street-bound progenitors.

LOL, first thing that came to mind when seeing these pics was Herbie :D
