so the Rotary in the 8 is weak??? How is it possible for a motor with like 3 moving parts to break easily???
Either way it's better off then the MSP block!!!

but blame justin because it was his idea.

Slander. I merely suggested that you take two packs of business cards instead of one, and atleast make the walk over there worth your while. ...I'm not sorry.

I wouldn't say it is weak. The problems generally arise from one of two scenarios;
1. people who buy an 8 and don't take care of it properly, and
2. people who boost the engine without doing all the proper mods to make it safe. Either way, the engine is warenteed all the way to 100000 mi.

On the plus side, its the best motor of its kind ever put in a production car, for all thats worth.

Yeah the thing about rotaries "breaking" is that people treat them as if they were general piston cars and rotaries require more frequent and meticulous maintanence.

On a side note, I got to drive Kristen's 8 towards the end of the meet and it drives SO much differently than an MS3. The difference is like night and day. It drives like a gutless economy car at low RPMs, then when you down shift and wind it up the motor screams and the gears feel sooooooo long because of how high up the motor revs. She kept saying "you're shifting too early... It'll beep when it wants you to shift." She forced me to redline it once and I was uneasy about letting the engine rev up that high. Also the shifter is super short and nice. The clutch travels a good bit farther. The seating position is much different. And the throttle is... "less responsive" you really have to put your foot in it to get the throttle to respond... which can be really annoying when trying to get rolling from a light... It was so different that I had a hard time driving my car out of the parking lot.

the side port is ass for boost and not great for porting. They did it to get better emissions out of the thing.

Its is better in every way as long as you keep it NA, and compare apples to apples (ie na to na). I suspect that with a few more years of experimentation it will prove to be competitive for boosted applications. Comparable to a 13b anyway, not 20b. There are a few that have figured out the porting too.

I agree, somewhat. The next gen rotary will have to be boosted to keep it viable for sales/perception and economy. It won't be an FD out of the box, but I'm sure it'll have more potential than the Renesis. The Renesis was purpose-built to achieve a singular goal... but they've now had time to perfect on it.

My next car will be a rotary, one way or another.

pssst.... hey you over there... get one of these:

If you get an FD, I want a ride.

The next gen rotary will be a direct injected 1.6 or 1.8 liter, Mazda has had a working model for a while now.

It all hinges on what college I transfer to next year.

If I decide to transfer somewhere where I won't need a car, I'll sell the speed and get an FD. Store it in the garage out here while I'm off being a good student, and kind of... have it paid off and waiting for me, as a reward, when I'm done.

If I decide to stay local, around here, I'll keep my job... so the logical move would be to finish paying off the speed and pick up whatever the new RX is at that time. We will see.

I don't know, man... that's really more practical than what I'm looking for. The spoiler is not nearly big enough.

Yeah that DISL 1.6 that they developed would be sweet. I don't think they have any plans to boost it as of right now, but it will not be in a production car any time soon.

I would love something with a few mroe ft/lbs in the midrange, say 2K-5K, that weight a few hundred pounds less. That would be a blast.
