Official: ATx -> MTx conversion

so i don't need to buy it!
s***.. i just ordered it this morning, too.... ah well. i'll just cancel that 1 part.
that last little piece of clutch pipe is on order, should be here Wednesday..

just put in 2 orders at the stealership.
i'm up to ~$100 from the dealership
I was missing the Clutch line c-clips (like what holds the brake lines in place on the strut)
the last piece of clutch pipe before the clutch release cyl.
the 6 bolts for the flywheel
the 8 bolts for the tranny (they are different than the ones in the ATx)

I highly recommend if you can afford the wait in shipping time or whatever.... and you have larger orders to order from Richard at Mazdastuff.com they are WAY cheaper than the dealerships (usually around 25-30% I think).

shipping to Canada = never worth it.
I'm in a bit of a rush to get all the final parts... This also gets me a little more chummy with our local dealer.
There's a Toronto dealer that offers us 17% off all parts, but then i'd have to pay for shipping to Ottawa - and that wouldn't guarantee me the parts by Friday morning.

yep.
gonna have people floating around during the whole install with a couple cameras... maybe even get a few videos - there'll be at least 1 of me doing a victory dance when the bloody thing is out of the car.

If you guys need anything (info wise... as obviously shipping takes a while) or run into any roadblocks give me a ring.. I'll PM you my number...

went to the dealership today to pick up the clutch pipe that goes from the clutch line to the clutch release cyl.
Noticed something was missing for this pipe to work properly. there's a nozzle i'm missing.. oh wait, there's another clutch pipe that I'm missing too...
lol
so i ordered a few more parts. Glad i set aside $500 for misc. parts from Mazda (which i hope i don't need to use)

Brian - on the bright side.. if we make OFFICIAL member cards, we can get 10% off at Carling Motors :P

ECU sitting at the post office waiting for me.
That is the last major part that I need to have.. I'm going back to the dealer today to look at diagrams of the entire tranny assembly, see if i'm missing anything at all.

Can anybody list off small parts that i might be missing?
I will make a photo-inventory of EVERY item that I have this evening.

List of what I can think of off the top of my head
pilot bearing
Flywheel
flywheel bolts
clutch disc
pressure plate
pressure plate bolts
throwout bearing
release fork
wire spring on release fork
clutch slave cylinder and mounting bolts
slave to flex joint hard pipe
hardpipe to hard pipe flex tube
Hardpipe from flex tube to firewall master cylinder
(2 spring tabs, and two mounting brackets for clutch lines)
Brake fluid resevoir with bottom tap
bottom tap to clutch master cylinder connecting hose
clutch pedal and mounting hardware
Engine kill switch/clutch depressed switch
Neutral switch in tranny
reverse switch in tranny
replacement axle seals
3 quarts of transmission fluid
transmission to block steel spacing plate
Starter and Mounting hardware for manual tranmission

That's a few/most of the things involved I believe.

Can you elaborate on these items?
are the switches IN the tranny? if so, then they'd be there by default, as the tranny wasn't disassembled
I have the starter, but I was assuming all the mounting hardware would be the same from the ATx to MTx.

there is a wire spring that SHOULD be imbedded on the clutch release fork.. but if it isn't there it is a problem... but it is easy to check for.. it holds the fork onto the pivot ball that is in the bell housing area of the transmission.

The engine kill/clutch depressed switch is mounted under the dash and when the clutch is fully up it depresses the plunger, but when you push it all the way down the plunger comes out and allows the car to be started... but you need that, or can hot wire around it (not recommended).

The neutral and reverse switches are screwed into the outside of the transmission and have wires coming out of them... so if you have a fully tranny they SHOULD be there.

You always should replace the axle seals. they cost 5 bucks each roughly. Otherwise you risk a leak there which isn't good.

There is a large steel plate that matches the outer edge of the block/bell housing. It goes on before you put on the flywheel, but is necessary for one reason or another. I ruined one, and had to buy another at one point.

The starter is different between the two... you may be able to use the automatic transmission starter, but I'm not sure. There is a difference in output (the auto tranny starter is more powerful) but they both bolt up to the bell housing... so it is a matter of if there is a difference tehre.

That help?

- ok.. the spring - i have (i'm 99% sure, but i'll check when i get home)
- the engine kill, i have.. i have the whole clutch assy, so it's there
- i'll check the tranny switches tonight (take pics, post 'em up)
- i just ordered axle seals
- i asked about the steel plate and the dealership didn't understand.. i'm going there in a few hours to look at some pics with him... Do you have ANY pics or anything that I could refer to? I'm a little lost on what this piece should be... i'm thinking it's like a gasket of some sort.
- i have the manual starter, and I'll see if it'll bolt up with the brackets I have now, or if i need something else?

you may also not have the kill switch for the clutch... it isn't actually mounted to the clutch assembly at all. it mounts to the under side of the dash...

i see.. i'll explain it to him like that.. i remember being there when that pic was taken.. just don't remember the parts :P
I think it's cuz I explained it as between the tranny and block.. so he was probably looking at the diagrams for the tranny and block, when it'd be with the flywheel diagrams.
