O2 Sensors

I got a check engine light on and my inspection failed because of them. Firestone wanted to charge me $500 for both + plus labor, and they don't even know if it's both, so they were gonna tack on an extra $100 diagnostic to find out. Bunch of theves.

I'm in the Houston area (near the Galleria), anyone know of any good, reputable mechanics that'll do the work for a reasonable price? Otherwise, I'd try it myself, but I probably couldn't do it alone.

Try Pepboys they carry both o2 sensors. See what they charge for installation. You can also order from Walker. They make OEM sensors for great prices. Then get a tech to change both.

I just went to Autozone and the code read. They said it's the Bank 1 Sensor 1. Is that upstream or downstream? Is it worth it to replace both?

Price: $109.99 FML.

It's the first one and that is the important one because it determines your A/F ratio. I just replaced mine and i got the universal one at autozone for $60. If you can do simple wiring with no soldering you can change the O2 sensor, it's simple. Plus you can rent the sockets for the sensor at autozone for free.

yeah i got the universal but its already shot after about 7k miles. i wouldnt trust it too much

yeah, please spend the extra $$ and get an OE replacement o2 sensor. i work at the said shop that is a "bunch of theves(sic)" and see these universals go bad all the time. but on a side note, our shops are just like restaurants....you can buy a steak at walmart for 5 bucks and cook it yourself. or you can go to outback and pay 30 bucks for that same steak. we are just providing a service for people who would rather take the easy way out.(hi)

The OEM O2 sensors cost around $100 bucks each at the dealer. They are really easy to take out, and should not take more than 15 minutes to do so. Its a SHAME that they charge $300 for 15 minutes of work! THIEVES!!!!!

There's a difference between charging someone fairly for your labor/experience and ripping them off because they don't know any better. $600 for changing the two O2 sensors is simply usurious.

Buy the OEM. I had the Bosch universal and it screwd up my AFR. I then bought a OEM unit and the car runs great. Spend the extra bucks !!!

+1. Any way you spin this, it is overcharging for a job that anyone with a socket wrench could do in under an hour.
