Now that the cold is here, how is the heating system in new CX-9?

The AC's been talked about to death, so now that a lot of the US is in an early deep freeze, how is the CX-9's heater? As well as the heated seats? So for those owners in the north, let us know!

No issues here, works well and comes up to temp quickly.
My wife says the seats should be hotter, but she's not one to make that call, she's always freezing! [emoji3]

I agree with Bibs. Heats up quickly and keeps me nice and comfy. Really enjoying the heated seats, its my first vehicle with them.

Warms up just fine. I've also gained an appreciation for heated seats when it's 30 degrees in the morning.

Good to hear. Figured I'd ask since there's also a correlation between engine size and cabin heating, at least I think so.

I live in one of the colder and snowier cities in the US. The car heats up very nicely. The seat heaters are excellent. There are three settings, low, medium and high. I cannot keep on high for more than 10 minutes because I get too warm. While we are talking cold weather, I also put 4 Blizzaks on the cx-9 and it is really great in the snow.

In very cold weather of -19 to -29 Celsius like its been lately it takes a very long time to blow heat. It warms to luke warm fairly quickly but doesn't really blow hot until after 20 -25 minutes of driving. The underpowered HVAC system and lack of rear seat heating doesn't make for a very good cold weather family car IMO.

Interesting, Dan. I'll amend my comments above, by saying SW Ontario is NOT cold, by Calgary standards. Coldest we've seen this year is -10C, and my truck is always garage parked...That would help my truck get to temp quickly.

Can others check the exterior temp accuracy? I find mine varies while I'm at low speeds, idling in traffic. It's like the ambient temp sensor is picking up heat from the engine bay. Once underway, it settles into a more accurate reading, as the wind gets it true ambient air.

Totally agree on this assessment...where we live it's been a steady minus 20deg C of late (winterpeg) and takes awhile to heat up the cabin but this was expected being a larger vehicle that's why I just made sure to install an aftermarket remote starter which has helped...I remote start it and let it run for almost 10mins so by the time we get in it's warmed up a bit already. I found the blower to not be as powerful as I'd hope but I can live with that...

Sorry for the OT, which aftermarket remote starter do you have?

I had the 2way Compustar Prime G9 which was thrown in by the dealer for free as part of our deal...doesn't void the warranty of course and I've had experience with compustar brand...excellent reviews on it and has a 3000ft range however only has 1-2way remote as other remote is only 1way

What temp are your CX-9's running at? This was as warm as mine got after a 45 minute commute home and it never blew heat.

Like CX-5, apparently Mazda put ambient temperature sensor right in front of radiator and AC condenser on CX-9 which will pick up heat and make ambient temperature readout inaccurate. Other car manufactures I've seen have put ambient temperature sensor at lower front location away from radiator and AC condenser. I can never understand why Mazda keeps doing this. (uhm)

That's interesting. Your temps are pretty extreme but perhaps it should warm quicker. Have your previous cars warmed much quicker in those temps?

Yes, every other vehicle in the family warms and blows hot air in a fraction of the time. I'm bringing it back to the dealer at the end of the week, I think I've got a problem.
