Not so new Mazda2 Owner Reporting!

:
2012 Mazda2 Sport
Hi all!
Purchased my Mazda 2 back in April of last year. She isn't my first Mazda, however she is my first brand new car, and first FWD driven in anger! Just recently started modding her for Solo2 in STF class. I have less than a year (left) on station here in Hawaii (US Navy - Active). Maybe when/if I do get back to the mainland I might pick up a 2nd one to do BSpec battle. Unless I revert back to being a college student. Car currently just racked over 14,000 miles. As of now, zipping around potholes and stripping down my front tires at Solo2 events will hold me down. STF only seems to have 3 entries each time here. Any other 2 owners from Oahu on here?

Cars owned in the past:
An assortment of 240SX's
1991 RX-7 GTU
1987 RX-7 TII

It seems weird going from sporty turbo'd RWD's to a diminutive 100hp 1.5 liter econobox, but wow my love for this little gem grows by the day! It's impossible to hate driving this car, well my only gripe is the E-throttle rev hang and the DSC/ABS right now. (Currently researching what the PCM Reflash offered by Mazdaspeed does/doesnt do.)

Mod's so far:
3M Front clear-bra package
Corksport front plate relocate kit (AKA Boar slicer)
H&R Sport Springs
H&R Camber bolts (maxed at about -2.5Deg)
Kosei K1 15X7+25
Dunlop Direzza ZII 205/50
Tri-point engineering BSpec Rear Bar (awaiting delivery from Mazdaspeed)

Here's to being more active on this forum and less of a lurker!

Hit a boar on the way home from work at 4am. Haven't been running a front plate since. :)

Give me a call about the Mazdaspeed ECU, 360-260-2675. I have gotten plenty of track time in with it.

That kit is pretty tough to take the hit from the bacon!

Thanks for the love guys. :) And yes, a 2 dressed up in angry boar/boar killer livery would definitely be amusing!

Yeah, I clipped the little guy dead center on the plate. Did bend the acrylic plate though. I say little because the wild pigs here can apparently get up to 400lbs... Not sure i'd want to hit one of those with the 2.

I did install this beauty today, a whopping 2 hours after the UPS truck arrived it was magically on! Totally transformed the car... preloaded 1 turn. (Mazdaspeed recommends 1 to 1.5 turns) Can't wait for this Sunday's autocross event. I'll definitely give you a call about the ECU.

There is a Mazdaspeed ECU re-flash for the B-Spec cars. It was created to be the factory approved flash for world challenge and club racing. It changes the redline and gives a little bit of power increase along with some other side effects.

How would one find and purchase such a thing?

I wasn't aware mazdaspeed made anything for the 2. Is there a catalog somewhere?

The only 'Mazdaspeed' parts I know of are the B-Spec kit pieces. This is the original flier.

The Re-flash isnt listed on the flier, but is also available through them. Not sure if you have to be a member of the parts program to order, but if you race a Mazda within the US/Canada, I don't see a reason why you wouldn't want to join.

Like Derrick said, the Re-flash was developed to help balance the 2 with the other B-Spec cars and make it more 'race-able'.

I am working on getting more info for the ECUs. They are race part and there are some things which make this a little more complicated. I will post up once I hear back.

The rear bar is ok with jacking up under the beam, you just have to have the jack all the way down when you slide it under it.

So i've noticed the bar clunking over heavier bumps, noticably on the right side, turns out it's hitting the factory muffler. :|

Well that is really weird.

I know the B-Spec exhaust they offer does not have a rear muffler in it so that could be why no one has mentioned this before.

I imagine a pair of polyurethane exhaust hangers for the muffler might help that. The stock rubber mounts are a bit bouncy.
