Well ive had my msp for about a year now, did a few mods such as intake exhaust and boostcontroller. I learned a lot from this car and i have made the decision to sell it and get something with a little more potential and cheaper parts. Would 18k be a good place to start on the streets? Im going to try and find a nice GSX with decent miles. Wish me luck.

Yeah, 16k should be a good offer.
Don't be surprised if you have to go lower though. How many miles?

And I wish you A LOT of luck with a DSM (spin)

yall need to shut the hell up...look at the used market for msp's if it has below 10k it cansell for 18k easy...the dealers are dried up of new msps and there is no rebate........stop makin assumtions and leave th gyalone...this s*** is ****** old for real

i agree about getting a WRX instead of a GSX. better base, i've compared friends'.

15-16K is a decent asking price, with some room to haggle.

16k is a good asking price if you don't really want to sell it. The TINY Morrie's Mazda dealer here in Wisconsin still has 2 brand spanking new speeds both with 17.9k marked in the window. So that's with no haggling at all - you could haggle them down further from there. So YES, they ARE still selling cheap brand new whether we want to accept it or not.

Wrong. I just got off the phone with Mazda USA earlier today, and they have 5 new Mazdaspeed Proteges sitting on dealer lots in my area. Even without the rebate, they are desparately trying to push them off the lots. I called two dealerships after I got off the phone with Mazda USA. They are still selling for low $16k.

Don't make assumptions about what you think the market for this car is like right now. Do some research yourself and you'll see everyone else in this thread is about right.

have fun with the GSX, my friend had one, with alot of s*** on it.....pretty much everything you could do to fix up that engine. Problem is it was fast, but it wore out pretty damn quick. good luck to you though.

BTW, I had a '98 Arrest-Me Red Eclipse GSX. If you find one, get a short shifter and some bushings; the stock sits too high (can't change out CDs if you're in 1st, 3rd or 5th, LOL) and the gears can be hard to find. The mod potential for DSMs is incredible. Wish I still had that car...

I think when looking at the availability of MSPs and prices, it's pretty much all regional. Some places have a lot, while others don't have any at all, which will affect the price of resale. I doubt someone across the country is going to ship a car, let alone a Mazda across the country because they're saving $1k. Its just not worth the hassle. Some areas you might be able to get $18k for it, and some areas you might not. I know I wouldn't for mine, and I don't plan on selling it either, although the WRX sure does look pretty....

Who cares, this subject is getting old. Dude take it to Carmax sell it to them, or go on KBB.com or Edmunds and find out a good blue book price for a private seller. Then try and sell it. I joined this forum for info and upgrades for are MazdaSpeed Protege's, not to listen to people who want to sell there cars. If I want that, i'll just spend all day on www.AutoTrader.com
