Noob! Random Mod questions!

I bought a slim ballast kit from DDM tuning. All you need is what is provided in the kit. It's plug and play and you don't need anything else. All you need to do is mount the bulbs, attach the wires together as per the instructions, mount your ballasts somewhere, and enjoy your new headlights. I went with 4500k and I am very happy with them. They are perfectly white and cover the road very nicely.

i got my hid kit from ebay, came with bulbs ballests and everything... ive had mine for like 2+ years and they are still going strong. as for the lip, i can only find some up to the 2006 model... im not sure if it will fit or not. i looked for actual bumpers and i saw nothing appealing(my opinion)

another cheap mod, i put a cold air intake on mine, it was 30 dollars and i got it put on in like 30 minutes by myself

ok thanks, you used the d2s bulbs right?

Only if you have the factory installed HIDs. Otherwise you need a conversion kit w/bulbs that are designed to fit a halogen housing.

8k they go blue.
i have 6k and they are still quite white
Quite right. In fact I have 5k's in my fogs and if I knew then what I know now I might've gone lower than that. The whiter light actually makes them less effective as fog lights are in bad weather. And a blue light... only for show.
Plus the Man in Blue might just stop you to see what all the fuss is about. They don't particularly like seeing blue lights... except their own. Find a bored, angry or small town cop one night and he/she just might pull you over. The ticket will cost more than the conversion kit.
I was once pulled over when one of my rear LED bulbs wasn't making good contact and was dim. Not out all together. Just dim. I fixed it on the spot so the cop let me go w/a written warning, but he might just as easily given me the ticket anyway.

So, here's a question from a n00b: Has anyone come across a console replacement for the '07 Mazda 3 that moves the AT gearshift closer to where the cup holder is, and puts the cup holder at the end (near the astray...or taking the place of it, since I don't use it)? Alternatively, it could leave the gear-shift where it is, but squeeze the cup holder at the end, anyway (perhaps by elongating the console, or packing everything more). This is more like the layout of my previous car ('96 Honda Civic EX), and, from what I've seen on this forum, is the location of the cupholder in some Mazda Protgs.

I get why Mazda moved the cup holder (Honda has it similarly positioned in many Accords, and perhaps their newer Civics) - giving someone the option of manual shifting but putting the gear shift in a less reachable place makes no sense; however, since I only use the AT mode, I'd rather have the cup holder in a place my arm can more naturally reach without looking. Starbucks options beats out shifting options for me.

You are right. The cup holder is in a horrible place. Too close to the bin area and too far down. I find myself having to look down to find my cup, and taking your eyes off the road is never a good idea. I have never seen any custom/aftermarket consoles for a 3.

I also hate the cup holders cause if I have large cups like a Mc D sweet tea or a coffee mug I have to reach over them to shift. Very annoying, especially when my arm is scraping all over the top of my passengers sweet tea straw

Hey guys I'm new to this forum. I was looking at this mod and also had some questions regarding HIDs. I have an 08.5 Mazda3 hatch sport. It did not come with stock HIDs. I want to put HIDs for my low beam headlights. I had a 6000k 35w and all I have can say is my stock headlights had them beat by far, so I switched them back. I read on other forums that because mine didn't come with D2S HIDs stock, my projector inside the headlight housing is different thus producing a different beam pattern which is why my HIDs didn't seem as bright. Is this true? Would I have to change the projector?

You should spend a couple hours surfing HIDPlanet. It is true that a proper set of projectors and a D2S HID setup is far better than most, if not all, HID kits on the market. So is it light output or a nice cutoff line that you want? You can get a set of TRS lenses and do the 'washer mod' for colour. This will clean up your cutoff line and improve light output. As for the finer details, yes, your halogen projectors are not tuned for HID output. The lenses are frosted, not clear; and the bowl and shield are also not shaped and spaced for the best HID light output/cutoff line.

The best you could do without either buying a set of factory HID headlight assemblies, ballasts and caps, or a full retrofit using somethin like TSX projectors, is:

1. TRS clear lens swap
2. 4300k - 5000k capsules
3. Shave off the squirrel finders on your halogen shield
4. Paint your bowl with a flat black high temp paint
5. Assemble using the washer mod.

I have 8000K Lowbeams and yellow fogs (non-HID just painted lense) and it looks pretty sweet. And very cheap. Does anyone know how to adjust the light angles? For some reason my lights point everywhere but where I want them to lol.

My friend just did it for me. There is a cap inside, behind the bulbs. Light blueish. You take it(pry) off and there is a bolt, turn to the right or left with a socket wrench and it will go up or down, you can only go so far till the bolt just keeps spinning, Remind you that if you do take off the caps, it will void your warranty if you have one through mazda.

Thanks I'll give it a shot

Is there a video on how to change to LED lights I'm more of a visual person to see how other people do it.
