Only had my MS3 ten days. Last night I was leaning on her a bit, since there are now a bit over eight hundred miles. Anyway, under very heavy throttle, I heard a loud bang from under the hood, and the boost just evaporated. Was that the BOV? She runs fine, so I'm pretty sure she's not hurt.

Sounds strange. I wouldn't say any loud bang is normal. You could have popped a vacuum line off somewhere. Check all your lines and IC tubes. Sure you didn't just run over something?

Well i had that happen but it was my BOV. If that was your problem you would have trouble getting it to 60mph.

Immediately after the "bang", I took her through my favorite esses at over 75.

Does that mean the BOV is a one-time shot? And just to make sure I'm not using a term incorrectly, BOV=Blow Off Valve, right? And the Blow-off valve dumps excess boost, right?

Whoa slow down, also edit posts rather than double or triple posting. First yes BOV= blow off valve, I answered this in a PM so i will just cut and paste....alika so.

Whats IS a BPV and it doesnt cause the jerking inbetween shifts from the system giving to much fuel because it thinks theres more pressure than there is? Or is this not the case? I'm noob to Boost, too much honda lol

Bypass valve and blow off valves are very similar devices. When the turbo is spooling and shoving air into the engine the throttle plate is open. When it closes it would cause a back pressure that would cause the turbo to spool the opposite direction. The bypass valve take that pressure and reticulates it back into the engine. The difference between an blow off valve and a bypass valve is that bypass shoots right back into the engine, were blow off valves vent to the atmosphere. Some BOV however can be setup up to act like bypass valves. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Blow off and bypass valves will vent everytime the plate closes. My situation was a bit different in that my BOV popped off. See "duct tape" vid in my sig. I dont think this is what happened to you.

While scoping out the job (prior to ordering anything), I noticed this: Looks like something to alert ye olde dealer that the OEM airbox has been molested.

I thought the same thing at first, but it's just a clip that that holds the airbox on. Pinch the top to remove it and it allows the fat part on the left to slide back over the popsicle stick looking part so the airbox can be removed. The little cord on the clip is just there to keep it from falling off, so don't break it.

When i first got my ms3 it did something like that. I had about 300Km on the odometer. I got it to the dealer for analysis and it turns out that everything was ok... I'm now a 17000km and the car still running strong and have absolutely no oil consumption even with 1000km on the track. Dont worry too much if it dont do it again. if your frisky and got a trusted dealer(heard that most US mazda dealers are a$s ole) bring them and youll know.
