NGR Type-S setup

I was wondering those of you have this bov. Running recirculate of course. Um.. I just got mine a few days ago and the lower nipple broke off during shipping but most people say you don't really need the lower nipple anyways. Can anyone tell me what their setup on the ngr type-s is? Both nipples hooked up or just the top one? Large, single, or both spring setup? In which setup how many turns to make it run right at factory boost levels? Any help would be great. I can adjust it with my vacuum pump, I just don't know what to adjust it to. Thanks.

I only used the large nipple with both springs. I didnt have it tightened to much casue it would flutter the tighter the spring was.

I'm usin both springs. Don't mess with those its supposed to have them both. And the lower nipple is only if ur running 30+ psi and you gotta tap into a different boost line. Lastly i got mine pretty tight runnin 21-22 psi and it doesn't flutter. For stock boost i'd say turn it a quarter to half a turn max. Just don't strip it out like i did the first time!!!!

I have the real greddy type-s, basically the same thing. But I dtook out the smaller spring. I have it 6.5 full turns from first contact. If you have both springs in, you can barely turn that top screw before it starts fluttering/surging when you get into the higher boostee shifting. The other posters mentioned that they have 2 springs in and barely have theirs turned.

I personally found that it reacted quicker and opened smoother/faster with 1 spring in, and you can adjust the top screw tension in more combinations with the single spring before it starts to surge (noticed surging at 8 full turns with the larger spring inside only)

Well if you have both springs in, it doesn't even start opening till about 19 in/hg. The stocker starts opening at 15-16 in/hg (note it does have another hole so that it can breathe better, I'm pretty sure at least). When I run it with only the large spring it does take more turns, but it is more adjustable. Plus it starts opening earlier, about 13-15 in/hg which is much quicker than 19 and it still holds boost. I haven't really turned it up much to check surge but I've had it between 4-5 turns and anywhere in there works pretty good. My boost still holds the same as it did with the stock bpv, no flutter, and its way loud (recirculating). I'm gonna try turning it up a bit more tomorrow and see if I can't find that spot where it works good and has no flutter. But anyways it seems to work better with only the large spring. Ngr told me not to take the small one out but then they admitted they ran only the large spring and the top nipple on that focus turbo video they have. So I think I'm gonna stick with just the large spring.

Well the large spring has broke in and now opens at 13 and fully open at 16. I am going to run both springs tomorrow and let the small one break in too. Then I'll let you know how it runs after both springs are broken in. Also when you get the bov if you don't care about your warranty open it up and clean it because it still has little metal dust from machining in it and then put a drop of 3-in-one oil on the black shaft. Make sure you clean everything off before you put the drop of oil on. Works fine without oil and ngr claims to not use oil in it but the black shaft clearly has oil on it. Oh and the little metal dust messes with the movement of the piston if you don't clean it out. So make sure you get it good otherwise it will stick to the oil. I only run the top nipple too. Large or both springs.

Note don't use oil. Grease works better. Rub a little on the black shaft before assembling. Also grease the springs, it helps them slide together better and helps them compress into the metal housing. It makes for a much smoother operation.

Well I've been having troubles with only running the large spring setup. The large spring requires too much compression to get the spring rate that I want and in turn it cannot compress into the metal housing it sits in. It gets stuck on the edge when the piston is almost all the way in and then it just pops into the hole. I think I need to round out the hole a little bit more so that it doesn't get caught on the edge or I need to extend the edge somehow so that the spring has no where else to go when fully compresssed. I tried running both spring the way it comes but even with the adjustment screw just barely making contact it flutters. I even tried it that way for a while to see if I could break the springs in but to no avail. I either have to modify the bov to work better with the spring, get a new spring possibly from a real type-s, or let both springs sit on 20 with a hand held vacuum pump for a day and see if I can't break them in REALLY good. I dunno too much bulls*** to deal with just to make it work. Plus seems like I had higher boost with the stocker. I'll keep working on it so don't get your hopes down about this ngr bov. I've played with it a lot so that might be the cause but so far it seems to be working good besides it struggling to open all the way with only the large spring in. Works AMAZING the way it comes, and I would buy it over a Greddy type-s anyday. Sorry if I'm repeating myself a lot I'm kind of out of it. Bed time...................Mir Moose
