NGK Extended Reach Spark Plugs

I got in contact with the head office of NGK here in Canada...they are going to be releasing the "7" version of the ZFR6FIX-11.

I picked up a set of the ZFR6FIX-11 for $30 CAD (special deal on this first set) to try out shortly...they are about $40 Cad regular.

Who can "read" these plugs for me?

They are a set of ZFR5F-11 that I had used for 2.5 months in the winter. I never got around to posting the pics of them....

They have been sitting on my garage floor for about a month...I took the picture today...

Left one is from the #1 cyl and the right one is from #4

The only difference is the gap. You will need to gap the BKR7E to what you like.
i just ordered a box of these. Im probally gonna gap them to .28

I ran these for a while at 10psi and under and had no issues.

Also what signs on the plug will show detonation?

Also what are techniques to gap the plug? Last time i just put the gauge to the desired spot and tapped the top with a small mallet. then rechecked to see if they were right.

thanks for all the help.

signs of detonation..will look like black spots on plug insulator.

I was in the process of changing my plugs and my Sparkco wires came apart in my hands (rant) . Going with Magnecor or Nology now! Also, I noticed one of my spark plug boots was really sooted with carbon. Loose spark plug (bang) . Check that torque regularly.

Isnt that a tad tight?
I originally got my Plugs from SPOOL. the same ones he used with his kits, and i believe that was what they were gapped to. I will double check, i still have the old boxes with the # on it.

Detonation?

1. Green/yellow spots on the plug
2. Maybe Debrees (from piston) if running lean and detonating for lond.
3. If the plug is too white.
4. Any melting sign

I changed the sparks today, from ZFR7F-11 to R5672A-8

Big change, the ZF are very nice compared to the R56, cold idle is smoother, no missfires and the ZF makes the car run stronger.

I was testing them @ 10-12psi and with the ZF the car looses traction in 3rd gear like he wants to eat the street. Now with the colder plug and short reach it doesnt. Big difference.

It runs richer and less power. Better for me because my engine is wounded.

quick question the zfr7f-11 is pregapeed .44 isnt that to far to regap to .30 for the speed and what do you think about the pzfr7g-g for the speed on step colder same extend reach i dont want to detnate iam running 9 psi sometimes 10 psi

Question: I replaced my spark plugs with some BKR7E's (two steps colder than stock) gapped to .030. I took them out after a day and the plug tip is white and the bottom base near the treads are black ( soot looking). Is that normal? Cause the plugs I took out where 1 step colder than stock and it looked normal with a brown looking tip with black (soot looking) with light brown insulator nose?

The only conclusions is the 1 step colder than stock is BRK6E but ended with a 11 or that maybe it's too early too take a look at the plug after a day? Some more info is that I running about 8 PSI. Am I running lean?

thanks!

shouldn't be any issue gapping from 44 thsnd to 30 thsnd.

O2p5.. do you have an AFR meter of any sort? I'm not super versed on plug appearance diagnosis.. so I can't comment toward that.. but if you have an AFR meter and show that you are getting up to around 13 then you are running lean. I've heard different stories in every direction, but it sounds like running an AFR betweeng 11.5 and 12.5 is about the best.. but some prefer to go higher.. I personally am running around 12.2

I'm running 11.9. Had the shop hook up a wideband and everything looks fine a couple of weeks ago. Actually the BKR6E-11 were gapped at .030 as well, I decide to go colder cause I just though it may be safer. The shop didn't have BKR7E-11's so I went with the BKR7E instead.

I just changed them yesterday and decided to take a look today.

The one's I took out (BKR6E-11's) look exactly like the top picture on the very top. Was just stumped why these new one's are white tiped instead?

This pic from top looks like a perfect healthy spark plug. Not rich, not lean, just like a normal plug should look like.
