Next Time You're Looking for a "Kill"

There is this kid I see around where I live...seriously can't be older than 18 or such, and I always see him driving around in a Z06. Le sigh.

I just wish they would open up some real tracks around me. The only 1/4 miler is about an hour away, and never has anything open to street cars. There is an 1/8th mile track near by, but its never open. The only real road course requires a few grand to become a member, and the one that will be more open to the public has been "opening next summer" for the past four years.

I mean, to be 100% honest, the only way to get rid of street racing is to ban cars outright. Compition is part of the human condition. Its engrained into us to compete for whatever reason. But they (whomever "they" is) could do more to try and curb it substantially. Instead, they just crank up the cost of tickets and take patrol officers away from looking for rapists, druggies, and killers, and go after people speeding. Standard government fair right there, don't treat the problem, treat the symptoms. Just like the story of the babies floating down the river.

I hate life by committee.

I ve raced on the street a flat 10 second Luv truck 11 sec Vega to a 13 second Nova and in the end you cannot control what people on foot do so no matter how good you are its a crapshoot I use to see people be 10 feet away from cars crosssing the finish line that were doing 110 to 130mph....and other cars in the area arent always aware that there are 3000lbs missiles flying by. we all know what we are doing and when the accident happens there shouldnt be surprised looks. it's illegal for a reason and everyone things it cannot happen to them because theyre so experienced but it can happen to everyone no different than a regular car crash, if they were planned they wouldnt call them accidents

My girlfriend went to school with a guy whose parents bought him two tt supras. Why two you ask??? Because he crashed the first one street racing. He hit a farmer who was on his way home from work and killed him. Nothing happened to kid and his parents bought him another to replace the one he crashed. Kids can be dumb if they have idiot parents.

I know this is off topic but just wondering if you can direct me to a website that sells anything for a 77 luv. I'm trying to rebuild one but can't find stuff anywhere. Any advice lenny?

QFT...as dumb as kids are, it's a good parent's job to make sure that they know better than to do something utterly stupid.

When I first got my license, I wanted a V8 camaro and my dad bought me a used 4 cylinder Capri. Never even thought about racing that thing.

The old man was smarter than i gave him credit for.

Your dad got you a car? lucky SOB.

I had to drive the family vehicle, whichever was available--over the years, I had access to a Pontiac 6000, an Olds Delta-88, 2 Ford Aerostars and an E150. After I moved out, I had to buy my cars on my own. First was a Dodge Daytona Turbo Z (engine didn't last 2 weeks >.<), followed by a used Ford Ranger (lasted me 6 years), and now my 3.

Yeah, young=dumb, but if the parents don't try to beat anything through their thick skulls, it won't just be "a passing phase."

when i started driving, my parents let me use a beat up nissan sentra. let me tell you, i was more than happy to clunk around in that thing, cause being able to drive was better than any other freedom i had! in other words, give them only what they NEED to be able to drive...otherwise, you're just asking for trouble.

Of course I do not see why that had to be racing to be charged with a crime. I think anytime you are involved in an auto "accident" with injury or deaths you should be charged with assault or murder.

Some drunk ass in a POS Neon runs a red light. He isn't wearing his seat belt. You have say, a good sized solid truck. He gets hurt, you don't. So, you still wanna be charged? Logic is your friend, you may want to use it sometime. Might make you seem smart.

It's very true, if you as a parent go and buy your kid a fast car eventually they are going to realize its potential and try to see how far they can take it. At 16 I had an 85 Dodge Aries (yes you can cry for me) and I never thought about driving fast. And if I did the car quickly changed my mind.

My first car was a Rav4 picked up in '01. Topped it out once whilst racing a '96 V6 Mustang (I won, in case anyone is wondering). It was far scarier doing 110 in that then it was when I topped out my last BMW at 150.

I also started with a sentra (1991 4door) and i thought it was awesome. If I would have got a fast car I most definitly would have crashed it. I did end up wrecking it but it was because a driver in the opposite lane passed a car on the right side (pretty much going off road) that was letting me turn left. I didn't see it and he hit me. The car was totaled but i was ok. Now I look out for everything whenever i make a turn in any direction. I think kids dont know how inexperienced they are at driving, I know i didn't.

UM. How about you use some logic.

He is obviously saying the person at fault should be charged. If you are driving and "Some drunk ass in a POS Neon runs a red light" and hits you, the person at fault (the guy who ran the light) would be charged if you are injured, sounds fair.

no not really

a friend of mine got in trouble with the law, went to jail for a few yrs, and got out @ like 22 and he was just as bad as 16 y/olds with a new license

np that gives us a few more years to pass legislation to raise the min age up a few more years...:D
