Next Project: Alpine Overhead Screen with DVD

I am considering the Alpine Overhead 10" Flat Panel with DVD Player for my 2011 CX9 GT in the next month or so. Currently gathering some information about where to mount the bracket which is giving me a lot of headache as I have a sunroof. A lot of anxiety also come from the fact that I do not want to mess up the headliner when cuttting.

I am also considering paying a pro to just to cut the headliner and mount the bracket only then I can do the rest.

I also like to integrate the the audio output to the AUX input (hidden) as well as to mount a female RCA's jacks for the AUX input for the unit so it looks integrated.

Has anyone done something like this? If so, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

From what I was told, if the sunroof was from the factory, then it will not have the DVD option and vice versa.

I have seen people install overhead DVD units on vehicles with factory sunroof. Trick is from what I have found out so far, is to mount the bracket onto the sunroof frame. But care must be taken so that the bolt does not protrude into the path of liner from sliding back into the headliner, otherwise, it may be damaged.

One way to determine where and how far the sunroof bracket extends out behind the sunroof opening via removing the dome lighting and looking in there, you can put up the template of the LCD unit, and cut out the section for the bracket to be mounted. Then you tap, drill, then thread the hole and mount the bracket. I think that's the hardest part of the install. I may have that part done by a professional as I do not want to risk damaging my expensive headliner.

But in the end, I may mount the overhead unit on my M5GT and mount the ESS 9" headrest mounted LCD panels on the CX9. Have not fully decided on what I will mount. If I go with the direction of headrest mount, I cannot have one of my kid sitting in the third row as I have three. Then I would need to mount something there also. So the overhead unit is perfect for all viewers but then I am a bit apprehensive about cutting that new headliner.

This is a project I'm looking to do as well.

Is the DVD entertainment an option from the dealer if you have a moonroof?
I'm new to Mazda...is there a site similar to this that shows you all the parts that are available for all models?
