News: Mazda announces new 3 and MS3 details!

I think that car looks like crap and I hope it and the 5 cylinder stay in Europe. Why would they even want to use a 5 cylinder if they are trying to make the car lighter with better gas mileage.

Because ford is trying to cut costs by using an engine already developed and successful in its Volvo line. I'll agree, I think turboing the 2.5L 4 they are putting in the new 3s would be the better way to go, but def not the cheaper way to go for the company.

some one give me some info on 5 cylinder engines , how they look ?
thanks iv looked but almost no info thanks

5 cylinder engines work just like any other internal combustion engine. They've been around for a while. It looks like a four cylinder inline with one (surprise) cylinder tacked on.

Audi had great success with their 5 cylinder engines. This one is from the RS2. Slightly modified by Porsche.

I guess I didn't realize they were doing away with the 2.3L in the regular 3s too. If they wanted to save money I don't know why they wouldn't just keep that engine and upgrade the NA engine to direct injection. Plenty of companies keep the same engine with minimal changes for long long runs. Everything that I have heard and experienced with the engine is positive. Wasn't the 2.3L developed by Mazda too. I would take a Mazda engine over a Volvo engine any day.

that front end looks like a tone downed furai..
something to note.. they also talked about bringin back the seven in 2010....

Not sure if this is a repeat, but here is the official word on a 2009 speed3 model...

MAZDA3 4-Door and 5-Door and MAZDASPEED3

The perfect sedan for an active lifestyle, the 2009 MAZDA3 delivers a total driving experience far greater than its price tag would have buyers believe. Offering European sophistication, high-performance and advanced technology, the MAZDA3 is a leader in the compact sedan segment and Mazda's best selling vehicle.

MAZDA3 5-Door is a sporty hatchback with design flair targeted to appeal to a youthful mindset. Fitted with a 2.3-liter, 156-horsepower MZR engine – the same as found in MAZDA3 4-Door s and MAZDA5 – MAZDA3 5-Door comes standard with a sport package that includes stylish front and rear bumpers, side-skirts, 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and unique taillights.

if they did decide to bump it up close to 300hp, I bet they are going to up the price by at least $5k or put it somewhere in the price range between the 2009 WRX and the STI

Edmunds now has a tab for the 2009 MazdaSpeed3, so it must be true for sure. Invoice looks to be $300 higher than 2008.5.

New rumor now up on Autoblog is saying the engine will be an upgraded MZR 2.5 turbo 4, not a 5 cylinder. There is nothing official on this 5 cylinder engine, so let's wait until we hear some more official news before we get too upset.

let us all keep in mind the fact that Mazda is a competing company and would have to compete with the 2009+ other models of cars from different companies.. i.e wrx and such.. and from what I see .. either Mazda is gonna raise the bar .. or have a car with 250hp? lollzzllzlzlzz

or they can keep the same car and everyone else would have to raise the bar....in which case mazda would still win

Nice work. I also don't believe any of it since it's not a release directly from Mazda. I love it how magazines and blogs post crap about future models and get somebody to Photoshop or draw them a picture and everybody on the intraweb thinks it's friggin gospel. Until there's an official release from Mazda, it's all rumors and speculation and nothing to get excited/disapointed over.

good work! with technology nowadays we can't even trust our own eyes

Lets all keep one thing in mind, the Mazdaspeed3 has been an absolute hit for Mazda. In the face of very real competition from VW, Chevy, now subaru and Mitsubishi, Mazda would be stupid to not produce a newer version of the speed3.

The only thing that I got from that article in Autoexpress was the confirmation of a bigger and better speed3 along with the subtle confirmation that the Focus RS will not be touching our shores. With the mazda taking advantage of the 2.5 5cylinder there would be conflicting interest with the focus rs which carries the same powerplant!

I dont know about you guys, but these are exciting times considering big auto manufactuers are actually listening more closely to the buyers. IE Subaru's new WRX
