newbie question..plz help

[Protege Type 5]

I searched the forum for deck install deck removal but i couldnt find any older threads..so ill just ask and get pummeled here =\
Anyways, how the hell do you remove the deck?
Which side do you approach it from?
I tried removing the aluminum trim around it, but it has so many screws and bolts, and it seems some of them cant be reached. Anyone have a step by step with pics maybe? Thanks everyone.

im taking out my kenwood eXcelon x817 for a brand new Pioneer premier DEH-P940MP...

I can't find my link that I had on exact directions but.

The plastic wings on the sides of the player pop off. These are the little wings that actually are next to the player on both left and right side and same hight as the player. Once these are off you have 3 holes on either side. You will need a DIN removal tool and plan them in the bottom 2 holes on both sides. Push the removal tool outwards away from the player and then pull er on out.

After you do it once it'll take no longer then 2min everytime there after

you don't really need a "TOOL" i made mine out of a sturdy coat hanger...

lol i feel so stupid..i got it out with a little force..i was jus scared to go in there and start getting it out..but it slided out pretty good..thanks everyone for the support

U know all u had to do was go around the edge of the radio where the knobs are at there are some trimming around it it kinda looks like its poppin out near the knobs on the left and right hand side. pop those off and goto walmart buy the tool to remove a double din radio insert those into the sides where u took that little flap out from pull outward and the hu will slide out nice and smooth. Sorry I read this to late othawise you wouldn't have had such a hard time with it....
