Hi all,

Just got my P5 Friday, 2002 model w/ 49K miles. I love it so far. Lotsa pep and it looks brand new! :)

Anyway, I'll poke around here for comments and such, but perhaps I could get some quick direction on how to replace the factory stereo myself. I've installed a car stereo on my old Diamante and it was pretty simple so I'm confident I can do it on my own. If there is a website with pictures, I'd be much obliged for a link. So far, my search on this site has boggled my mind. Seems most ppl here are experts on such things.

Hope this isn't too much an annoyance to you.

Welcome aboard ! Be sure to look around. There a many people that are quite knowledgeable in many areas on here including the car audio area...

well hello there!
welcome to the forums, you're in for a good ride (2thumbs) :D

as far as the head unit removal all you need are the Ford removal keys that stick into the four holes that appear when you just pull back the pieces of plastic on either side of the radio.
here's a good thread that doesn't have pics (sorry didn't find one when I did a quick search) but has really good info for you...

btw: never let anyone give you too much s*** about asking for help. everyone on here has had to ask questions and very few refuse to recognize that they used to not know much about the car either. some of the sites biggest experts are also some of the nicest people about answering simple questions...

Welcome! I also have an '02, only 24K miles on it, but over the last year have learned alot about it. Need any assistance, let me know!

welcome! what are of the country are you from? we have meets just about anywhere across the states....enjoy the mp5!!

Thanks to all for the friendly greets!!! :)

Well, I am currently living in Knoxville, TN but I am moving up to Syracuse, NY to be closer to family. I'm a long time Upstate NY'er but I forgot my snow driving skills. I think the Protege5 will handle the snow, but not sure. Any insight?

My 16yo son thinks my car is "way cool" and he wants to pimp it! Um...I'm a little old for that at 42, but one thing I will definitely have to have is a new car stereo w/ MP3 CD player and perhaps some new speakers to go with it. As a matter of fact, my wife is asking what kind of stereo I want for it. Right now, I have no idea. Again...suggestions?

Needless to say, I am very excited about this car. I never have been excited about a car either. I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Hah, you are never too old--I'm older than you and I'm having a blast with mine.
One suggestion, though, for update NY esp, invest in a set of steel wheels and snow tires. It's worth the extra cost.
Welcome.

pimp my ride....hahaha....(lol2) ...."42 and to old" another haha...(lol2) ..i've got a few yrs on ya and my ride, well...maybe not pimped out but lightly modified..(2thumbs) .the car is "way cool" and i garuntee you will end up doing stuff you never thought you'd do to this car....i felt the same way once 5 years ago!!!

just to reinforce what was said above about snow tires...make sure you get some!! If you're still running on the oem dunlops, replace them immediately!! I had my car for like 2 weeks before I ran into a big curb and caused 2500 bucks worth of damage thanks the wonderful traction the stock tires provide in snow. oh...and it's not just winter they suck in...watch out for slightly damp roads!!

anyway, welcome, and enjoy your new ride...the p5 is the sweetness!!

Oh, and in terms of sound, I've always found pioneer, alpine and jvc to make quality hu's. Also, as a suggestion, when you get a new hu, spend some money to get some quality front 6x8's. Don't worry about the rears, their placement isn't really helpful to the overall sound.

Check out the audio section on the main forum page for more in depth info about this. There is a member by the name of 1sty who is the man when it comes to audio/visual on the forums.
