Newbie here.....question about check engine light on '05 3i 4-door

Hello...newbie here....with a quick question on my gf's '05 i sedan. Love the car when I have driven it and a buddy of mine just got his MS3 today and I need to see it! But anyway, on the gf's ride, the motor is acting like its going to die at stop signs and traffic lights when you stop and are waiting to go again. I guess it used to act like it was dying and she would have to put the clutch in and it would be fine. Now its doing it whether the clutch is in or out, heater/blower on or off, etc. The car will not die by itself but its definitely acting like it wants to. It has been doing it for several months (by her estimates) but just got worse and obviously it's throwing a code now because the engine light just came on. Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this kind of problem with their 3's? I don't know enough about these motors and the management system to take a guess. Any help would be great! Thank you for helping the new guy out! I've seen some great rides on here by the way(thumb)

go to a local pepboys/autozone to have the CEL pulled.

She took it in yesterday. Ended up being a bad purge valve and the motor was running really rich. She planned on taking it in all along, but I figured I would ask because there are some issues with a car like I own that many people have run across and thought I would see if this was common. Thanks everybody.
