Newbie Boost gauge Installer Needs help

:
Mazdaspeed Protege
I installed an autometer phanthom boost gauge and a TurboXs MBC. When I start the car it goes to -20 psi or Vac. When I rev it up to 4000 rpm is dials to 0 psi. bare with me as I don't know all the terms. I'm a bit afraid to drive around in fear I might blow my engine. is this normal or should I take it in to get it fixed?(help)

Did you put the boost guage in first and get a base reading to make sure it was working correctly?

yeah dude, take out the boost controller
drive arround a bit to see if your stock boost level is ok....should be arround 6-6.5psi
then put the MBC in.

Revving the engine under NO load will only get you to zero boost b/c the engine isn't working hard enough to blow enough exhaust to compress the intake charge any more thyan that.

Regular driving should get you 6-7psi on the gauge. Normal idle should be between 20 and 25 inches of mercury (vac reading). Engine-braking (not recommended, BTW, because that's what BRAKES are for) for deceleration will get you between 25 and 30 in hg.

Hope this helps.

Yup. You won't get any boost when revving the car in neutral. It will top out at 0psi.

And what's wrong with engine braking? When done right (double clutch & rev matching), it does not wear the clutch or synchros at all, and extends the life of your brakes.

Your gauge is working fine... and ive built 3 or 4psi of boost in nuetral by revving to about 6000.
Not a good idea, but not really that bad either.. :)

Heh..never had any desire to rev that high in neutral. I think 4500 was the highest ever...and that was just right after installing the BOV

Or like me pre-mbc it was 5PSI DAMN YOU PEDRO the dock worker!
Now however, after the delicious new boost hoses I get bursts/sustained runs of up to 16PSI but alas all things must come to an end and my MBC goes back dialed to 12PSI after Mazda figures out the prob or gives me their 15+PSI blessing (evil)

^ dude, i had to save that quote about the migrant dock workers......LMAO
that s*** is classic.......ROFL
