New to NEPOC!

People have tried to tune it out with the Standbacks, but not sure how that has worked for them. But I am pretty sure that it hasn't been done with the AP yet.

With how finicky these engines are now, trying to figure out an exact spot (gear change) to lean out just seems too risky incase the AP or Standback\tuner guy makes a mistake and leans out the wrong spot.

I read something about mapping to get rid of the problem with VTA... is that possible with the AP now?

Yes it is, but you have to do some datalogs with the AP and either post them on MSF and pray they are not assholes, or email them to COBB and they can do a custom tune for you... For a price of course.

Everyone is an asshole on that forum.....I avoid it.

Hmm... never really been on that forum.. guess I'm not missing much!

So you're saying it's far from easy to do VTA with mapping.... What about getting someone to custom tune it? Like a local person? Friend of a friend owns his own dyno shop. He does a LOT of Subaru tuning.

I understand that.... He showed interest in learning how to tune the MS6 last time I talked to him. He said he'd had a few MS3s come in. This was a while ago though, hopefully he's had more Mazda experience since then.

What is the big deal with doing VTA or 50/50 instead of the normal recirc? Is it just for the cool sound VTA makes?

I think you might be missing the reason why most people swap the stocker out. If it is for the reason why most people swap, stocker is leaking, you need to know if it is or not via a boost gauge or a data log first. Then you can go about swapping it. Different BOVs make different sounds. Also, with the stock airbox you won't hear most of it unless you VTA because of the design.

Carlson's BOV (Forge) and mine (HKS) sound completely different from each other and they are both setup for recirc. Even the simple cheap one from a 1G DSM (Eclipse) sounds different and can be painted black to match stock.

Sorry Mark for crapping on your thread. :(

No biggie.....I change the stocker to prevent leaking as I mod. Also, coming from Audi the VTA improves performance (plays with the a/fs) as you square away the tune with a Stage 2+ kit. I just wanted to get a hybrid to test out the ECU on these cars. Personally I think full recirc + intake sounds better than VTA....i never heard 50/50 in person.

Update on the hit and run......police came out and I showed them the pictures and I noticed you can see the 'M' emblem from my front bumper in her rear bumper. The old overweight cop said that she definitely had to hit me but there's not enough damage to do anything. He said that I could wash or buff of the scuff marks. WTF kind of service is this.....Fall River Police need to do something fast about the old timers in the PD they are too conservative.

Installed the CS SRI, TIP, and TS bov (set to 50/50) on Friday. Car sounds loud and runs great....had to adjust the bov so I won't get backfires. I'm going to run the bov 50/50 for a while then switch to recir since the damn thing is loooooooud.
