1997 Miata, 2011 Mazda2
Hey everyone. Just saying hi. I now have a 2011 Mazda 2 Touring, black, manual as my DD. I am trying to keep it stock even though I know that won't last. Awesome car as I am sure you all would agree. I got it because my Miata isn't the best DD anymore. I haven't seen videos of Mazda 2's autocrossing so I figured I would put mine up from about a month ago. First time autocrossing the car. I drove it as delivered. Wasn't to bad at all. I will have more autocross videos of it over time. I will do a suspension view as well like to I on my Miata.

The location for mounting the camera wasn't the best but I will work on that for next time. It works well on the Miata though.

Anyway I look forward to reading the forums and getting reference information. I also will post up information about the car as I find them. I will also post pictures to use as reference as well.

Welcome,

Hope you enjoy...

I like the video from the underside/chassis view. Pretty cool to see the suspension components at work.

just realized I have pictures from that autocross as well. In this picture I did hit the cone with the wheel. The car is fine, but I have marks on the wheel only.

Looking proud

Hows the body roll? Compared to a stock miata, strictly based on weight and size, how do you think it stacks up? Talking NA model here, not NB and newer...

Welcome and I wish you the best in controlling the mod bug. BTW you do know CS now has an exhaust available, right? ;)

As for body roll, judging by that first picture, there's just a wee bit. lol And now that the wheel is marked up...time to buy some new ones. :) As you can see we enjoy spending other peoples money here. lol

If we could swing another payment right now, my wife would be pushing me much harder to trade the P5 in for an aquatic blue.

Hard to tell. The 2 has a lot of roll, but I think a Miata would as well if it didn't hit the bump stops like it does so much on the stock suspension. That was one of the reasons I did the suspension video on my Miata. I wanted to see how the suspension travel was. Was about what I expected. I am planning on getting sway bars for it when I get slicks on it after my RE-11's die. I am planning on taking the shocks off of the 2 and measuring the lengths of the shocks when it is at full droop and when it hits the bump stop. That will give me a good reference to see where the suspension travel is at different ride heights. If ya can't tell I am an engineer, and I mainly am interested in suspension design for performance. Aero has become a big interest of mine as well.

Wheels will be coming after PSS10's. My autocross wheels make the 2 look like a 4X4. As you can see the mazda 2 wheels look good on the miata though. I might paint the 2 wheels bronze and use them for a normal wheel on the Miata.

Damn...it looks like a mini suv with those. Love the 2 but the stock wheel gap is horrible. First thing I'd have to do is suspension if I ever got one. The 2 wheels do look good on the Miata. So what wheels are you looking at for the 2? I've seen one member running some 6ULs and Mazdaspeed Motorsports is offering a special 5zigen wheel for spec Miatas that would look quite nice as well.

Good luck with your research!

Are those wheels the Team Dynamics? If yes, 15x7 in what offset? 30, 25, other? Any rubbing?

Thanks for vids and pics.

Looking good, enjoy seeing it run out at the Clemson AutoX's...

Joker, if you are looking for some Team Dynamics, I have a set with Toto Proxes RA1's available...

They are team dymanics. They are 15X7 with a 40 offset. No rubbing even with the RE-11's on it. For the 2 I am planning on getting 15X7 bronze 6UL's and running the 195/50/15 star specs. Mainly because they are a grippy tire, and that size is really light only 18 lbs. I am trying to keep the car light for fun/ MPG reasons. I have RE-11's on the team dynamics and they are really heavy. The cost of RPF-1's don't justify the cost for the 2 since it is only my DD. I would rather spend the money on the Miata.

Where did you get these and how much?
I have some 30 offset on my Miata and was wanting to try them on the 2 . Just because Corksport used the Spec Miata Enkeis on his and those must be 20-30 offset.

"guess not!

I got them from good-win-racing. Funny thing is I bought them for my Civic I had, then I got the miata. That is why they are a 40 offset.
