Hello,

Just introducing myself. I just purchased my wife a used 2008 CX-9 AWD Sport. I personally drive a 2006 6s Sport.

So far, very impressed with the CX-9 (I have loved my 6). Anything specific to watch out for?

Thanks!

Rick

Your speed! :) It's so easy to get up to speed quickly without realizing. Enjoy the car and welcome to the forum.

Hahahaha, I totally understand. My 6 is very quick, and I have been impressed so far with the performance of the CX-9! We drove several other crossovers in our quest to replace our aging minivan, and the CX-9 by far was the best driver.

Welcome! Couple things to be mindful of

Transmission valve overheat issue - if your prod. date is may 08 or later, not to worry. If before, and your car cuts out going up a hill, then you have to get a valve replaced that monitors the trans temperature. Don't think its an issue if you have the factory towing package which has an aux trans cooler.
If under 36k, dealer will replace inside door trim for free when its scratched.
If your blower goes to max when you turn the car off, you need a new front blower relay, and same for the rear blower if it happens in the rear.
Someone has posted a link to most of the recalls for the cx-9 on here, not sure where it is.
Most people ditch the Duellers (tires) and go for something much better that costs less.
K&N filter on Amazon for 42.00 shipped
Paint chipping is common - get a bottle of touchup @ dealer, or in my case, if you get the wrong color and they fight you on it, just fight back and get another bottle. Use a very small fine tip art brush to dab.
(paint chips but usually the primer remains, so no rust issue, at least for me)
Exhaust tips rust on the bottom on the inside, keep them polished.

Also, alot of people experience water leakage into the passenger compartment by the right front floor.
This is due to the sunroof drains being blocked or the front AC evaporator drain being blocked...not sure if they both have the same drain or have different drains, but there are diy's on them to use a wire hanger to poke into the a/c drain, and use a air compressor hose to blow out the sunroof drain holes.

I've never had a drain problem, and wash regularly and keep it garaged, but alot of people have reported the issue.

Thanks for the updates.

Thankfully, my production date is later, so I think I'll be OK (I did find that when researching the purchase). Also, no sun roof, so no drain issue so far. It is garaged full time, and it will be washed regularly.

As for the K&N, it's already on order, as is a new cabin air filter. And I do have the same paint chipping problem on my 6. Not very many, and no rust yet, but they do seem to chip some. I will need to get touch up paint for the CX-9. Also, thankfully, this was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned, so they have already replaced the tires. It has Firestone's on it now. Wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but they seem OK so far. And the AWD in the rain has been pretty impressive so far.

Thanks again for all the stuff to watch out for!
