Thanks to everyone who posted to my last thread, with a little persistance I got the piston to collapse and changed the rear brake pads on the driver side.

But ran into a problem when I got to the other side. I couldn't get the caliper bolts off. I used a 1/4 allen wrench because that's what I used on the other side, but now i'm convinced I stripped both bolts. What now? what is the correct size? was it supposed to be metric? How do I get the damn things off now that they might be stripped?(dunno)

Everything on this car is metric. Do yourself a favor and get a full set of metric tools if you are going to do any work on it.

If you used a 1/4 inch wrench, it was probably a loose fit and you stripped the bolts a little, but there may be enough left that with a proper sized metric wrench you can get them out. If you can, it's the best way, but even so you should replace the bolts because they will be a lot closer to stripping even with the proper wrench the next time.

Good luck!

Yeah, found out today that it was supposed to be a seven millimeter. I'm hoping that when using the right size I can get it out. It'd be a pain in the ass to have to extract it. As far as gettin a full metric tool set, the thing is i just use whatever my dad has and have stripped things in the past, never had enough money to get all the tools I need, and because of money, I figured I'd try to save some by just doing it myself, never thought about what if I didn't have the right tools and if I **** something up how much more costly that would be. Maybe i'd be more interested in gettin a full tool set, but I really don't mess with cars as much as I'd like.

Keepin my fingers crossed

Go To Jiffy Lube Or Something They Can Get It Off Ive Had The Same Problem, Just Get Then To Lossen The Bolt A Little Give Them 5 Or 10 Bucks Then Drive Hoem And Do Your Brakes

i worked on a mazda3 on friday night! no allen wrench! i used torx and i had noo problems! only problems i had were callopsing the rear callipers! ( im buying the 100 dollar pnumatic tool next where it squezees and twist the rear callliper at the same time) the onyl tbing i had stuck were the rotors, and a rubber mallet takes care fo that!

Unless the speed 3 is diffrent i used torx
