new speakers same HU

Recently drove my old car which I installed good speakers and realized the sound in my old car blows away the sound in my 09 speed3. After hearing that my music sounds dull and flat. My question is if I get a full set of new speakers but keep the stock HU is that going to help? or do I need to get an aftermarket stereo? Would rather not have to get aftermarket stereo because I dont like how aftermarket units look in when the car has like a big stock HU.

Changing the speakers with a 16cm(or 16.5) good set will definitely improve your sound quality.
I instaled a set like this in a Mazda6 2008 with bose-crap setup. It was a huge difference, BUT, they had less bass(the Bose amp is 2ohm, the speakers are 4ohm rated, so the tiny amp runs at ~1/2 power). The sound awesome.
