New second hand car

Ok I need a beater between about $2000 and $3000. Dont want to use up the MSP or EVO.
I want the car tp be:
1. Reliable
2. Fun to drive
3. "Somewhat cool"
4. moddable if I chose to mod it
5. able to be a decent daily driver if needed.

Any thoughts??

Im thinking a 240SX or a Civic hatch. I dont want another Mazda. They're great but it's just I like my ladies in different flavors if you know what I mean..

a first gen neon is cheap and very very modable, just make sure you buy one with a 5speed otherwise you will hate your life

Old Legacy, if you can find one that cheap? There are some mod parts out there, and just adding great tires will get you into the fun zone (but no, it isn't in the Miata's league).

But once you're down into the sub-$3000 market, it's buyer beware for finding anything reliable or that won't need some money dumped into it right away.

1st gen Ford Probe, old Maxxima, 5.0L mustang, Firebird Formula, 300ZX... Could be a big list. Have a mechanic check it over.
