Hey guys i head from someone that mazda has plans of reproducing the RX-7 lineup because the RX-8 wasn't as much a success. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this or if it is just a rumor.

interesting. my only thought is if the reintroduction of the rotary didn't work as well as they hoped, why would the re-reintroduction be much different?

NOT HAPPENING. Mazda has said FOR SURE, that there are NO other plans to produce a new rotary powered car, and NO plans to make a coupe (2door) version of the RX8, thru AT LEAST 2010.

The RX8 is due to get its refresh in 2010. Mazda has said that these will be mostly a front and rear facia change, with some minor interior tweeks, as well as new wheel design and color options. Mazda also said that there are NO performance upgrades to the engine/drivetrain thru at least 2010 as well.

The said that to help stop the rumors of new RX7s or a 2 door RX8 with a turbo or supercharger....ect.

I also dont see them suddenly replacing the RX8 with something else in 2011...otherwise why bother redoing the rx8 in 2010.....

A lot can change in 3 years, but I dont see anything like a totaly new car coming out, cause there would be more "talk" like a concept car or something. No car company is that good at keeping a secret that no one knows its coming till its out....also why would they.....they LOVE to build up hype for a new product....look at GM with the Camaro!

Also the RX8 has been a pretty good car for mazda so far...even with the problems and all the 04s and 05s (and prolly some 06s in the next few months) sitting on dealer lots...mazda is ABOVE its sales projections for the car in both the US and the World.

anyone read the interview with the designer of the concept Kabura. they asked him "was this car designed to be the next rx-7" to which he ambiguously replied "while the concept car utilizes a piston engine, it was designed to accept a rotary engine if the need arose" and more or less left it at that

mazda loves it rotary engine, but seemingly california emissions regulations and the EPA does not. So its a pain in the ass for them to really do anything with the motor like they could back in the rotary hayday.

road and track just implied that the unveiling of the new rx7 will be in 2010...
the picture shows the kabura concept.. meh
