new radio

My display has been going kind of wonky on me the last few months. I used to have a P5 with the 6-Disc In-Dash model and I really missed it. So I did some digging around and found out that since my miata has the Bose system I would have to find a radio with the Bose outputs.

I ended up getting this unit on ebay last night for about $100

It's from an '02 Millenia is only about 12k old. It's supposedly plug and play. We'll see when it gets here.

Any NB folks in here remove their radios yet? Do I need any special tools or do I just take the console apart?

that's no biggie. I wear a watch and my cell has a clock.

Yeah, it's plug and play. Don't know about the clock or how the power antenna hooks up since '00+ Millenias have rear window antennas.

Should sound really good.

Yeah, plug and play. They won't mount in NAs without some modification. Not a big deal though. I've got a '98+ single DIN Mazda radio-cd head unit in my Miata(and my Protege, for that matter)...the previous owner had a Sony Xplod in it with an aftermarket mount. I had to modify the aftermarket mount and trim the sides of the face plate(where the DIN covers go, so it's not like it's ruined), but it works fine. If you don't trim the faceplate, it won't fit in the center dash trim...so it's either cut the face or cut the dash trim, the face plate is the lesser of 2 evils.

You also have to link the ground wire to the main connector for proper illumination. I don't remember off-hand which terminal it is, but I can check if you need me to.

Radio sounds tons better than the stock Miata radio(unless you have the Bose or MSSS unit, I assume), and no one thinks to steal it because it's just a factory Mazda radio.

thay are not plug and play completly with the early NAs. You will have to add a wire to make the lights work with the dash lights. otherwise, the lights on the radio will go out when you turn on your parking lights. there should be an articly somewhere on m-net. I had to add a wire when I put in my Protege 6-disk H/U in my 91. I don't remember which ones, but it's from the hazard switch, to an empty pin on the radio conector..
