I always see advertisements for new radiators..what will they do? How will they increase performance? Do they sell them becuase an aluminum radiator is lighter than stock ones? I'm obviously asking bcause I know jack s*** about this topic so don't flame a n00b pleaaaaaase..

Usually aftermarket aluminum radiators are lighter weight and have a larger surface area, which increases the performance of the cooling system for race and hard driving applications. Our stock radiator in the Protege is Plastic with an aluminum core and is relatively efficient. Most Mazda's have pretty decent radiators. The only thing that is wrong with the Plastic/Aluminum core combination, is that over time the radiator may develop leaks where the aluminum is crimped to the plastic. This is very common in MX3s and RX7s.
