New Protege5 Owner!!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board... I just got a 2002 black protege 5 yesterday. I love the car and I can't wait to start modifying it. I had to retire my 97 BMW 318ti cause of my 1 yr old son. I needed something with 4 doors (to get the kid in & out faster)... and me being a girl... I wanted something "cute" yet sporty looking. Guess I got my wish! (yippy)

I wanna give it my personal style but i'm not really sure what are good sites to look for stuff. I dont think I really need anything to make it go faster... or do i!? I don't know much about car stuff... even though I'm raised in a car breed family (dad, sister and bro-in-law love fixing up cars... I'd rather be shopping for a gucci bag). For now I wanna get some basic stuff like HIDs, clear corners, car seat covers, some good tires, maybe some cute tail lights. Also, my car didn't come with a thingy to cover the back area so you can't see what's in the trunk area (sorry I dont know the right terminolgy... hopefully someone can educate me)... Anyone know where I can get one of those? Aside from the dealer, since they charge a few hundred.

So anyways... I hope to talk with you all more... I gotta get back to work though now! Please help educate me! C'ya!

Welcome. You probably want to avoid engine mounts or lowering springs if your towing a 1 year old around. The engine mounts cause vibrations and any suspension pieces you upgrade to are going to be more rigid and rough on the ride.

Welcome to the P5 family! These are great cars. You will definitely want to make it go faster, but it is fun to drive the way it came from the factory too. (drive2)

I have one of those rear covers that I'm not using, but I don't know if I want to get rid of it. I'll think about it and let you know after the weekend. How much is it worth to you? Like they say, money talks. Shoot me a PM if you want to make an offer.(thumb)

Just the opposite the vibrations puts the kid to sleep. Trust me I know from experience.

for "cute" taillights, go for the JDM tails. (do a search on the topic) Much better looking than the other alternative for our cars, altezzas (loser)

Welcome! It's always nice to see another girl wanting to make her P5 her own.

Check out Online Mazda Parts for stock parts at an affordable price. I have bought a couple stock parts I needed to replace and was in shock at how low the prices were. Fast service & delivery, too.

Stick with the stock tail lights...There are no "cute" tail lights. LOL! Those are about as "cute" as they get.

You mentioned better tires....does your P5 still have the factory Dunlops? If so..dump 'em. I have read nothing but horror stories about them. You have a few good choices in the 195/50/16 size but if you opt to go 205/50/16 there are much more to choose from.

As for the lights, I have alteezas...gasp...yes a lot of people don't like them but it is your car so you do whatcha like. The JDM and EDM are very nice lights but I didn't want to spend $200 on lights.

Also.. where can I see what the JDM or EDM taillights look like? I've seen the alteezas on eBay.

Also another alternative is rockblocker or bluebatmobile overlays which is a vynal sticker basically that tints them and makes them darker. I prefer the spray. My internet is slow or else I would look for pictures to post them of the tinted tails.

hey everyone new to the site and mazda world I just bought a 2003 protege 5 and it now has 77,450 mile I have put 4000 miles on it in a months time and love it. I would like to do performance up grades but don't much money right now cause I'm getting married next year. I was wondering if I could put quite a few upgrades with out hurting the engine at thoughts miles. I am personalizing and wish I could share but the computer is messed up and won't let me put any on here.
