Hey all,

Like the title says, im a new owner of a black 2002 Protege5. I absolutely love everything about it, The thing handles like its on freakin rails. I went in just to test drive the stinkin thing and i end up getting it. Its quite the upgrade from my 96 base model Geo Prizm which is a Toyota Corolla in sheeps clothing of the same year. I dont plan on doing a whole lot to it tint, a new set of rims and my stereo, but any pointers would be killer ill be reading up on all the posts to gain as much info as i can about the new beauty!

welcome! i'm partial to black, myself... just about everything has been talked about regarding the p5 so the search is your friend. if you're looking for wheels and stuff search for the "fitment recipe" (it's also a sticky in the rims/suspension forum). congrats on the purchase. have fun with the car!

Congrats and welcome. For info, like mountjonas said, the search is a great tool.

You definately made a great upgrade!

welcome man, ull find this site sooo helpfull, and comforting knowing other ppl share the same intrest in thier cars as u do.

ciao!

Welcome dude

Welcome!!! P5 is a damn good car. My gf and I love it so much! I was driving a Civic, but when I first drove the P5, I was like damn, it's freaking cool!!! The handling is great, but right now I feel the handling is not enough to me. May be I'm driving faster and faster(nana) P5 is the just the sexest car in the world to my gf and me(yippy) This forum is really helpful, I learned a lot here(RTM)

There's nothing like a black P5....congrats and welcome to the site!

First two things on my list were: tint the windows (mine are 35% fron windows, everything else is 20%), and paint the brake calipers. I used G2 paint which is an epoxy mix (www.g2usa.com). Very durable.

welcome!
nice choice of color haha

for a subtle mod, i would just do a simple drop w/springs. itll look aggressive, be functional, and wont cost you an arm and a leg :)

peace

I'm still pretty new to the mazda world. I was wondering how much would it run me if i got a new set of OEM wheels? cause the ones that are on the P5 now are kinda chewed up. and i like the style of OEM mazda alloys. or should i just go aftermarket? (uhm)

I remember when I first saw the p5. I said the same thing. Now I have exhaust , header, full car audio system, and a lot of interior goodies. So far for stock give it time you'll get the bug. (silly)

My 95 Corolla had just gone up in flames because of a cheap turbo kit that failed to accept the car, and the comfort of my P5 was heavenly... funny I was just like him

I ended up with an injen cold air, a short shifter and lowered 2"
I've left it at that and worked some detail like shaving emblems and mouldings

Welcome, and avoid the cheesy stuff you will love the car.

I'd go aftermarket, get some 17's. There are usally quite a few for sale if you search the forum. If you're into oem, you should be able to find those as well.

Welcome amigo. I upgraded from a 96 dodge neon, so I dont know who went further, lol. I, unfortunatly, never said that. I've always been determined to throw as much money as I can at the car. And I do! In insurance premiums....

You'd be surprised how friggin expensive they are! Your best bet is to see if someone here on the boards has a set they want to sell. Or just go aftermarket...although good, cheap, light rims are tough to find. The 2003+ rims are pretty light ~17.5 lbs for a 16in, so they're tough to beat.

Take a look around, search the threads here, and see what you like. Just try to keep the rims light, because otherwise you might spoil that wonderful factory handling.
