New project car...

apparently the shipping gods have smiled upon our little 7. Even tho we didn't pay for next day delivery... UPS delivered the springs to the shop yesterday.

Installed em today :D

Car handles sooooo much better, even on the crap tires that came w/the car.

With just the springs and kyb shocks, and a shock tower brace, the car feels like it has way less body roll than my mx5.

If the tires show up this week and we get a chance to get them mounted, we just might make it to june 9's auto-x w/the 7 :D

also, my dad finished up the major bodywork on the right front and rear fenders, and painted 'em to match the rest of the car... will post up some more pics as soon as my camera's battery charges back up so I can retrieve 'em and upload...

unfortunately I'm also a bit clumbsy... while installing the bracket for the shock tower brace, i forgot I was wearing a belt w/a metal buckle, and put some minor scratches in the new paint :(

damn you guys did such a good job on it...i should have just had you guys fix my car!! hehehe...

jp, speaking of mounting tires... ardie is planning to sell me his nitto nt neogens that have barely been used....he just bought them infact...and we were wondering if he could switch the waranty to me since they are fairly new... and well since they're on his rims... we'll probably need to switch the tires onto my stocks... i was wondering if we could take them to your shop? let us know... i dont think it will be for another month or so... but we'll let ya know...just wanted to check if it was cool with ya first...and wonder if the waranty switch could be done...

i don't see why not...i'll mount them.

Took it to its first LVR-SCCA autocross event tonight out at Primm... And while we didn't place first in class with it, I`m pretty sure we could have found another 2-3 seconds in it as it is currently prepared, and taken first. Also, we`ve got plenty of mods/maintenance left to do to the car to make it faster...

While I know I could have easily taken first in CSP class tonight in my miata, the 7 was tons of fun, and a learning experience. Some more seat time, and a bit more work on the car, and this thing will be way faster than the miata, I can feel it!

Heres some in-car video:

The maiden voyage! Not very fast, but respectable for my first time behind the wheel of this beast!

How not to autocross - I carried WAY more speed into the last section than I should have, got her waaaay sideways, and thought I was gonna take out a whole mess of cones... somehow I saved it, and still got a sub-50 second run... however had I braked enough, the first part of the lap was so perfect I bet it would have been a sub-47 second run... ehe...

And, the fastest run of the night - a 47.8. My dad's behind the wheel...

that was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun! damn rj only if you could have made it....you would have had a blast... good runs rick....sooo close sooo close to your dad!!! youre almost there!!! hehehe i cant wait till the results come out... chris and i needa find out who won between the two of us... i either lost by 1/10 of a second or won by two tenths of a second!! eeeekkk i wanna know!

Ehe... w/how solid the car is... I seriously doubt we would have lost control in the slalom! the car is so flat, it LOVED the slalom!

Update!

The way the car is designed, it has 6 intake ports to the housings (3 intakes per rotor), but 2 of them remain closed until you get up in the higher revs. Somehow, mazda figured out if they're closed, you get more torque down low, but once the revs are up, opening them is supposed to give more power.

Well, after last autocross, we took a look, and the device that opens/closes them was seized up.

Today, we tore down the whole intake, cleaned it all up, and got em working again. They were seized up due to massive amounts of carbon buildup. one was seized closed, and another was seized partially open. (and, after the fix the engine runs waaay smoother... we think this is why)

Well... the ports apparently do produce a noticable increase in power. at about 4k rpm, the sound changes, then you can feel a pull starting at about 4500, and then you can feel a lot more accelleration from 5k-7k redline. The car is a lot more fun to drive. (and it was a blast before!)

Looks like next project is exhaust now... but looks like we wont get that done before next autocross... but at least we found some missing power :D

mayn, that thing is gonna be LOUD !! now we'll know for sure that the rx-7 is running :D

Racingbeat header and test pipe installed. Much louder w/all 3 cats deleted, even w/the stock mufflers.

A little "raspy" tho... after we delete the stock mufflers, and convert it to one lightweight muffler, we might add a resonator to the testpipe to get it to sound right.

first time we fired it up:

making sure the 5+6 ports work:

still gotta delete the smog pump, as now its just dead weight...

but at least we got *something* done on the car before autocross :D
