Hi all, My car comes in about a week from now and I just have a question about the tires. I know it comes with summer tires and was wondering if I really need a set of winter or all seasons for our climate. It usually doesn't get below 20 degrees here and we haven't seen hardly any snow on the road in years. A couple times each winter it will snow and stick to the grass but not to the roads. Should I go ahead and invest in some winter or all season tires, or just be careful when the roads get wet? I've never had a car with this much power to the front wheels or even a car with summer tires. Just makes me a little nervous.
Thanks for the input!

I'm in North Alabama (Huntsville if your familiar).

Cool. I live in Madison and work in Huntsville. There's a few of us around in the area (mix of MS3's and MZ3's). If you're interested in meeting up anytime, shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll add you to the yahoo group we created so we can all easily communicate with one another.

Most "Summer" tires handle wet just fine. As long as you don't get a lot of icy/snowy road conditions, no need to invest in winter tires. If, however, you feel safer with "all season" tires, there are plenty of performance all-season tires available that you could switch to & run year round. You'll still be OK on Summer tires where you live, but as on ANY tires, drive as conditions warrant. That'll save you more grief than special tires.

One of the few things I enjoy about living in Florida is that I can pretty much run Summer tires all year without a second thought.

I sent you a pm. I just moved to Huntsville 6 months ago cause I got a job on the arsenal. Don't know much about the area yet, maybe you'll be able to give me some tips on good driving spots. All I know is to stay away from 72.

Yeah, 72 can be a real b****, especially on Saturday afternoon and evenings.

As for good driving spots, I have been on one pretty twisty road, but it was a few years ago and I was following a buddy and can only remember the main road to get there (it was off 72 heading eastbound once you get past the city) and not where to turn off. Other than that useless info, I'm sorry to say I can't be of much help, but some of the others in the area may know about some.

You'll be fine, There was only one day here last year that I actually needed winter tires, but no point in driving because EVERYTHING was closed. Pretty much all businesses in MS shut down if it snows.

Winter tires are for places that have snow on the ground for months at a time. Think New England, Colorado, mountainous areas. No need for winter tires when it only snows .005 inches a year.

Welcome to Alabama! I live down in Bham. :)
