One of the first obvious upgrades for a car like this would be an intake. The stock intake is made out of plastic with a couple of nasty bends (to accomodate the stock airbox). Just slapping on a cone filter yielded worse performance sitting in the path of the fans. Surprisingly I couldn't find any short-ram intakes for this car. Personally, I would not put a cold-air intake on a turbo car. My T25 wouldn't appreciate me sicking a 90 degree bend between it and it's air.
So, a friend of mine who owns Billet Design, a performance shop specializing in custom work, set out to make me an intake. Below is the awesome result:
The pictures of it installed were before it was painted silver. As you can see, the design is very free flowing and the filter sits against the fender away from the fans. I noticed a big difference with this intake, and the sound of it is just sweet. The BPV is loud and flutters less (definitely doesn't sound like a turkey). I'm very happy with the outcome.
For those interested in a short-ram intake, Billet Design is happy to make it available to other MSP owners. I'll have to get approved as a forum vendor first, before I can start taking orders for Billet. But I thought I would take this time to show you guys the intake and see who would be interested. The steel intake, painted in your choice of high-temp silver or black, will include the necessary rubber hose fittings, BPV tubing, hose clamps, filter (larger than the one pictured), breather line, and a bracket for relocating the coolant tank. Priced nicely at $200.
