New MSP Short-Ram Intake

I was under the impression that a ram air effect doesn't really give much gains on a turbo-charged car ("forced-induction" as opposed to naturally aspirated)...could be wrong...cold air i understand, but ram air...

For this SRI kit, do you have to remove the stock location of the BPV+hoses? Or can you leave that in place and install the sri onto the MAF as it sits stock. I'm just trying to keep things stock as much as I can especially with all those 1 time clamps and other little things Mazda puts in there.

If you put in a heat shield (or bottomless box) around the filter on the short ram intake, it would suck cooler air from the hole directly below it and block out the ambient engine bay temps and bring the short ram back on par with the CAI.

now if you run dryer hose or something similar to the front bumper through the hole all of the cai's go through, you'll have nice cold air and a straight path to get it to the turbo. i like that setup though, home depot to the rescue!

Did you have the hesitation before the install of the SRI? If soo, how is it now that you have the SRI in?

Also, the two smaller pipes coming off the sides of the intake...the one perpendicuar to the intake is for the crankcase breather, and the other one that is parallel with the intake is for the BPV/BOV/DV? Please let me know...thanks.

Well, I waited to install the Joe P. FPR mod until this intake was finished (didn't want to drill the stock intake). I don't think the intake itself would get rid of the hesitation (being a fuel problem), but with both together the car runs perfect! Pulls MUCH harder than before. This will be proven with track times once I head back; could only manage to trap 91mph before at 10psi, bad hesitation. I expect it to be significantly better with the FPR and intake.

Yes, the small perpendicular pipe is for the crankcase breather, the larger angled one is for the BPV.

I would have thought the same thing....until I rode in an MSP that installed the Injen CAI...with nothing else done, he completely eliminated the hesitation in his car.

Could you do a test - disconnect JoeP's FPR kit and plug up the hole in the intake and see how the hesitation is?

I'm still trying to decide if it's gone or if it's my new bpv throwing it off a bit now, Jesse. I think it's just the BPV being a little too tight. I'm gonna loosen it a bit more today, and see, but yeah...the INJEN did a hell of a job. I can only imagine that this will work in a similar fashion.

Update: I went out tonight (in the rain) to adjust my BPV. It was causing boost lag because I set it a little too tight. I just loosened it a couple of turns and voila!! It's all good...not an eek of hesitation after that little change...So apparently the INJEN does help. Of course...it was rainy, and cool...more updates as necessary. Let's hear some more about this other option tho...I'd love to see this come to fruition.
